The Flying Rat Pigeon Rehabilitation

The Flying Rat Pigeon Rehabilitation Independent, wheelchair‑run pigeon rescue based in Lancaster. This is a voluntary, home‑based rescue, not a charity

Me and my partner take in injured or vulnerable pigeons, give them the care they need, and release them when they’re ready.

Our newest resident is still slowly integrating into the flock, but he’s already happily sitting and eating alongside Goose and Peanut 🥹❤️

Also, Potato is absolutely soaked because apparently he decided it was bath time, despite the rain 😂

It’s so lovely seeing him settling in after everything he’s been through. Welcome to the flock, Potato! 🥔

For all our lovely new followers, here’s a quick guide to who’s who in this chaotic little flock photo ~
Peanut is perched on top of the shelter, Potato is chilling on the ladder, and Goose is underneath... Baby is there… she’s just not in the photo because she has far more important business to attend to: aggressively guarding her beloved dummy egg 🥚

🕊💕 PLEASE WELCOME POTATO! 💕🕊

We’re absolutely delighted to introduce the newest permanent resident here at Flying Rat Rescue ~ Potato! 🥔❤️

Potato has travelled all the way from Liverpool to join our flock, and we couldn’t be happier to have him here. 🥰
Potato’s story hasn’t always been an easy one. He was originally found grounded in a doorway and was extremely poorly due to internal parasites. He became so sick that his rescuer nearly lost him, but this little fighter pulled through and made a full recovery ❤️

He’s been described as an incredibly strong young bird, and his determination really is something special. After such a difficult start to life, he’s truly a little survivor 🕊

It’s also really important to us to mention just how incredibly loved Potato is by the person who cared for him before coming to us. ❤️ She fought so hard for him when he was poorly, watched him overcome everything he went through, and gave him so much love and care along the way. She even made sure to give him lots of kisses before his journey to us! Potato may now be starting a new chapter here with his flock, but he is very much still loved, and we’ll make sure that love continues to be a part of his story 🕊

We’re taking introductions slowly and carefully. For now, Potato is settling into his temporary cage within sight and sound of his new flockmates. This allows everyone to see, hear and get used to one another without the stress of being placed straight into the group.
We’ll gradually progress the introductions at Potato’s own pace, making sure he’s comfortable and that everyone is ready before he officially joins the flock

Welcome to your new home, Potato. 🥔💕
You’ve already overcome so much, and we can’t wait to see you flourish with your new flock 🕊❤️

We’re really sorry if you’ve sent the rescue page a message recently and haven’t had a reply yet, or if our replies have been much later than usual. We’re currently having some technical difficulties with the page and it’s making it difficult for us to keep up with messages as quickly as we normally would 🥺

We promise we’re not ignoring anyone! We’re working on getting everything sorted and will get back to everyone as soon as we can ❤️

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding! 🕊💗

🩵 Pringull’s happy ending! 🩵

First of all, just to clarify - we are a pigeon rescue and we do not normally take in seagulls 🕊

Pringull was a very special exception. When we were contacted about him, we were told by local vets and rescues that, due to the nature of his injury, he would likely be euthanised.
We just couldn’t accept that without giving him a chance ❤️
So we took Pringull in, gave him the care, time and rehabilitation he needed, and slowly but surely… we mended him! 🥹

And we’re absolutely over the moon to say that Pringull has been successfully released back into the wild! 🪶

He may have been a little bit bitey (okay… very bitey 😂), and oh my goodness, he could EAT! - But seeing our grumpy, hungry little man finally healthy, strong and flying free made it all worth it 🩵

We’re so incredibly proud of this little fighter 🥹🩵

Fly free, Pringull!
We hope you have the most wonderful seagull life ❤️

Please remember that this was an exceptional case for us, we remain a pigeon rescue and unfortunately cannot routinely take in seagulls

🩶 You may recognise Pringull from one of our previous posts about him! 🩶
We wanted to share a little update on our very unexpected temporary resident!

⚠️ First, we want to make it absolutely clear that we do not take in seagulls. ⚠️ Pringull's case was an emergency rescue and, at the time, no other avian rehabilitation facilities were able to take him. We stepped in because he needed help, but we are, and will remain, a pigeon rescue. 🕊

Pringull's bandages have now been off for a few days, and today he was able to leave his temporary home for a little supervised walk around the garden. 🥰
His injured wing is still very fresh out of the bandages, so we've moved him into a bigger space where he has more room to move around and stretch his wings.

He's doing brilliantly, and we're expecting him to make a full recovery and, hopefully, be released back into the wild in the near future. 🩶

And can we just take a moment to appreciate how much he's grown?! 😭 The difference between the day we rescued him and Pringull today is incredible. He's gone from a tiny, vulnerable baby to a much bigger, much more grown-up gull and we're so proud of him. 🥹
Here's a little then vs now comparison of our unexpected visitor! 🩶
Keep growing, Pringull. You've come such a long way already. 🕊❤️

Some reunions are just too special not to share. ❤️🕊️

Pancake popped back to visit his parents, Baby and Peanut... I suppose you can take the youngster out of the nest, but you can't stop them visiting Mum and Dad! 🥹

Seeing him perched outside their aviary, peeking in to say hello, was such a lovely reminder of why we do what we do. Pancake is thriving in the wild, but it's clear he hasn't forgotten where he came from.

These moments are incredibly rewarding. Rescue isn't just about helping birds recover, it's about giving them the chance to live the life they were always meant to have, while knowing they can still come home for a quick family catch-up. ❤️

We'll also be sharing a tour of our resident flock's brand-new aviary soon, once everyone's settled in, so keep an eye out!

Guess who came back to see us today... Pancake! 🥹
It looks like someone couldn't resist popping back to visit Mum and Dad! Baby and Peanut must have been thrilled to see their grown-up youngster checking in. ❤️
Seeing Pancake confidently flying free and choosing to come back for a visit is exactly what every rescue hopes for. It's always so special to know they remember where home was.
We've also included a little sneak peek of Baby and Goose relaxing in the corner of their brand new home while they settle in. Once we've finished getting everything set up just the way we want it, we'd love to give you all a full pigeon house tour! 🏡🕊️
Thank you all for following our rescue journey and cheering our feathered family on every step of the way. 💕

🎉 Rescue Complete! 🕊️❤️

Today was a very special day for us as we released one of our lifelong flock members, Pancake, the child of Baby & Peanut, back into the wild. Watching them fly off was incredibly rewarding.
Pancake is the picture of health, with strong, confident flight, and we couldn't be prouder of how far they've come.
Wishing them a long, happy, and safe life out there. ❤️

At the same time, our resident flock has now been moved into a much larger aviary! They'll be spending the next few days settling into their new home, and once they're comfortable, we'll be sharing plenty of photos and updates with you all.

Thank you, as always, for following and supporting our rescue. Every success story like Pancake's reminds us why we do what we do. 🕊️✨

🕊️ Our newest rescue has arrived - Meet Peaches

A big thank you to the lovely people who brought this little one to us after their cat proudly delivered an unexpected "gift" to them! 🐈 We're so grateful they acted quickly to get him the help he needed.

They've been cleaned up, made comfortable, and will be monitored very closely over the next few days while we see how they respond to treatment

Thank you again to his finders for caring enough to make sure Peaches got a second chance. We'll keep you all updated on their progress. 🤍🕊️

Update:

Sadly, despite being made comfortable and receiving care, this little one passed away peacefully. We’re so grateful to the kind people who brought him to us and gave him a chance. Sometimes with wildlife, injuries are not always visible, and sadly he had already been through more than his little body could recover from. Fly high little one 🕊️
