Happy National Dog Week! 🐾

From September 20th - 26th, we are celebrating the incredible bonds we share with our canine companions. One of the best ways we can thank our dogs for their unconditional love is by building their confidence through clear, positive training.

Quick training tip for this week: Spend just 5 minutes a day practicing a simple cue like "sit" or "down” using high-value treats. Short, daily sessions build a lasting language of trust! ❤️

Maple’s "Place" Command Progress! 🐾

Following on from my last post, here is the gorgeous Maple putting her new skill to the test!

This video shows her first steps in learning the "Place" command on her bed. Brainwork like this is perfect for keeping clever dogs focused, calm & out of the "barking zone" when people come to visit.

Maple picked it up so fast! Way to go, well done! ♥️🐾

Meet Maple! 🐾

Today I had the absolute pleasure of working with this gorgeous 20-month-old Dachshund, Maple!

Her owners have already done a fantastic job with her training—she sports a perfect sit & has a good recall!
But like many dogs, Maple gets a bit too excited (and vocal!) when guests arrive.

To help her learn to relax when the doorbell rings & visitors arrive, we introduced the "Place" command on her bed.
This is the very first step in teaching her that a knock on the door or visitors arriving, means "go to your safe spot," rather than to "run around & bark!"

The secret to a reliable recall?

A lot of owners think off-lead freedom happens overnight, but the transition from a short lead to no lead can be scary for both you & your dog.

In this video, you can see our one-to-one training session from today. We used a long line to bridge the gap, giving this clever dog a feeling of freedom and the space to explore while keeping her safe.

By practicing recall on a long line, we have set her up to be successful by gently guiding her if she gets distracted. We built a massive history of success before the long line was dropped.

If your dog is not motivated by food, don’t worry! You can use this exact same long line method using a favorite tennis ball or toy as the ultimate jackpot reward instead.
