💥 we’re offering a new package💥

Do you struggle to get to the yard for certain routine jobs? Stuck in traffic after work?
Turnout, bring in and feed times?

We’re introducing a new routine based full livery….. with a DIY twist!!

We
- make feeds/haynets and give them all
- turnout & bring in daily
- change rugs as necessary
- poopick & do field waters
- hay/haylage included plus 1 bale of shavings per week

You
- muck out/change stable waters
- exercise/groom
At a time convenient to you ☺️
You can add muck out days to suit you… for £5 per day!!

Being a small full livery yard, the horses are settled and thrive on a good routine 🐴
But with prices increasing in all aspects of life, this gives a cheaper alternative without you being tied to certain times of the day!
The care and happiness of the horses is at the core of what we provide and we try to adapt to changing needs.

It’s been a long old winter 🌧️ but yesterday marked the start of spring for us with the horses going back on to grass (for the first time in nearly 5months!!😱)
Our winter turnout pens have been an absolute god send although I won’t miss the daily upkeep of hay/water/skipping out & filling holes/levelling the surface from rolling!
Grass growth is noticeably down this spring so it’s been a long wait for the grass to get a good amount of length to it, never mind the ground conditions!
Massive thank you to all my fab liveries 🥰 who have waited patiently for the horses to go out again, it’s been pushed back numerous times due to waterlogged fields and slippery conditions.
It’s a shame we can’t leave the horses to make good choices when it comes to their safety in bad conditions 😂
Summer is near now ☀️ let’s hope for a great one 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Merry Christmas to our lovely liveries and horsey friends!!
A massive thank you to our little elves, who stuck in this morning and helped get the yard done 🤩 you’re fantastic and very much appreciated 🥰
Hope everyone has had a great Christmas Day, filled with love and too much food/drink 🥴

Been a long time in the making, but yesterday we started using our surfaced turnout pens.
These were supposed to be finished for last winter, but things don’t always go to plan 😬 unfortunately maintenance skips the queue infront of improvements 🤦🏻‍♀️
Massive thank you to our wonderful liveries, who have waited patiently for this 😊 we now have the option for them to go out daily, no matter what the weather has in store!! Not only that….they come in clean 😱 in December!!
Still a couple of adjustments to make and some more pens to add in the future, but for now, we’re super pleased with them and how well the horses have adapted to them!
This also means that our fields will recover much quicker and as soon as it’s drier, they can go back out onto grass (instead of mud) 🤩
Happy days!! 🐴

The ground is sooooo hard already 😩
With a reported bumper year for grass growth, concussion through the feet will add to the risk of laminitis.
We are so lucky to have our arena, where the horses can work properly and safely 🌸
Look after your horses, prevention is better than cure 💞

☀️💥Please beware of the hard ground... think and plan wherever you can…💥☀️

We always see an increase in lameness’s when the land is hard and dry, and with no rainfall forecast in the coming weeks we urge you to be mindful.

Many lameness’s are associated with increased concussion or slipping due to the hard conditions. As we move to the season where many outdoor competitions are being held on grass, think about how hard the ground is - not just at the show but in your horse / pony’s paddock too.

If they are constantly moving, playing, being ridden, jumping on hard ground, particularly with shoes on, then they will be at high risk of concussion injuries.

Common injuries associated with hard ground:
• Concussion and jarring
• Bruised soles
• Splints
• Tendon injuries
• Laminitis - as a result of concussion, which traumatises the sensitive laminae in the foot.
• Sore shins - the signs are swelling to the front of the cannon bone, which may lead to fractures within the bone if the horse is not rested

We can look out for early signs that a horse may be jarring up. They may not be obviously lame yet, but it is time to act and rest:
• Shortening of the stride: a horse may lose the swing and spring in its step as it tries to minimise jarring when its feet hit the ground
• Tension: muscles change their function on hard ground to help reduce concussion. This means they reduce their ability to work independently and compromise overall performance
• Refusing: they may be reluctant to land after a fence, so may start stopping
• Flattening and rushing over a fence: to minimise concussion on landing the horse adjusts its technique to prevent it landing so hard

How can you reduce the risk?
• Good conformation in the first instance
• They must be FIT for the work being asked of them
• Well shod with correct foot balance
• Not carrying excess weight
• Aim to do all ridden preparation including warm ups, on surfaced arenas if this is possible.
• Discuss the pros and cons of anti-concussive pads with your vet or farrier.

Many venues make a real effort to improve the ground, but there is a limit to what can be done in dry conditions. If it feels like concrete underfoot and you can save your horse for another day, you probably should.
