🌱Grass vs Tarmac🐕
What do you notice in these clips?
And no it’s not the different harness set up or the change in weather!
Look at the limbs, and the difference in motion.
On pavement you can see each stride is long and flight arcs are low. Meanwhile on long grass there is significantly more flexion of each limb, naturally taking each joint through a greater range of motion.📈
And why is this useful?
Well, in many cases (post injury, post surgery, chronic joint degradation etc) we want to continue to encourage maximum joint use because… if you don’t use it you lose it. By encouraging this motion in a more naturally occurring state it continues to lubricate the joint to allow it to comfortably go through its plane/s of motion. In addition, it means that surrounding musculature is being stimulated for strengthening.
This clip also shows how you don’t have to have all of the fancy equipment and tricks for an at home management plan. I always try to make my plans realistic, so they can fit into your routines, increasing the chance of at home exercises being done.
💬So, if your pet could do with increasing joint mobility, think about trying different surroundings and consult with your physio about adding this into your plan. 📝
