💚 Meet Theo! 💚

Handsome Theo is an 11-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel cross who recently came in for a dental procedure. 🐶🦷

After a thorough examination and dental X-rays, Theo needed 10 teeth extracted, including three of his canine teeth. Despite being a fairly big dental, he did brilliantly under his anaesthetic and recovered really well afterwards. 💚

Dental disease can often be more extensive than it appears from the outside, which is why a full examination and dental X-rays under anaesthetic are so useful for assessing what’s happening below the gumline.

💚 Meet Barney & Dallas! 💚

These gorgeous brother and sister kittens came in to see us and were more than happy to pose for a photo with our Head Nurse Jo! 🐱🐱
With those beautiful blue eyes, fluffy coats and impressive ears, can you guess what breed they are? 👀

Today this beautiful boy had his neuter procedure with us and did amazingly well! 🐾💙 He’s also one of our lucky patients on our amazing Health Plan, helping make his ongoing care even easier and more affordable. After his procedure, he was pictured having some cuddles with our lovely receptionist, Lesley, who was more than happy to give him some extra TLC! 💕🐱 We’re so pleased with how well he’s done and wish this handsome boy a smooth and speedy recovery! ✨

💚 Meet Bobbi! 💚

Bobbi is a lovely 10-year-old dog originally from Oman, who joined us for a significant dental procedure. 🐶🦷

Once her mouth was fully examined under general anaesthetic, Bobbi required 26 dental extractions due to extensive dental disease.

She also had an area of abnormal gingival tissue, suspected to be an epulis or gingival hyperplasia, which was removed during the procedure. Because of the size of the resulting defect, a large buccal (cheek) flap was carefully created and sutured into position to close the area — as you can see in the photo.

It was a substantial dental procedure for Bobbi, but everything went smoothly and she recovered well from her anaesthetic.

💚 Meet Winnie! 💚

Winnie is a very handsome 13-week-old DSH with some Maine C**n ancestry, who came in for his second vaccination. 🐱💉

You might notice something a little unusual about Winnie’s paws — he has thumbs! 🐾

Winnie is polydactyl, meaning he was born with extra toes. It’s an inherited trait particularly associated with Maine C**ns and usually causes no problems at all — it just gives him those impressively chunky paws!

Winnie was a little vocal about his visit, but was a lovely boy and is now all up to date with his vaccinations. 💚

💚 Meet Kiko! 💚

Kiko is a 10-year-old DSH with hyperthyroidism, so her anaesthetic was carefully planned and monitored throughout her dental procedure.

Once under GA, a thorough dental examination revealed significant disease, including an abscess around her upper carnassial teeth (108/208), shown circled in the photo. Kiko needed 11 teeth extracted in total.

Despite her hyperthyroidism, Kiko remained stable under anaesthetic and recovered really well. 💚🐱🦷

💚 Meet lovely Mimi! 💚

At an impressive 15 years young, Mimi came in for her dental treatment. 🐱🦷

Her dental assessment revealed tooth resorption alongside other dental disease, meaning 7 teeth needed to be extracted — all of her remaining back teeth.

Mimi did brilliantly throughout her procedure and was soon recovering with the team afterwards. 💚

A lovely reminder that age alone doesn’t have to stand in the way of necessary dental care. 🐾

💚 Meet Boris 💚

13½-year-old Border Terrier Boris recently came in for a dental procedure.

At first glance, his teeth didn't look too bad, so vet Ben was surprised to find that careful probing revealed furcation exposure and hidden infection/abscessation around a number of teeth that wasn't obvious from the surface.

In total, Boris needed 16 teeth extracted — a great example of why the true extent of dental disease can sometimes only become apparent under anaesthetic with a thorough examination and probing.

After a longer dental than expected, we're not sure who came out with the messier hair — Boris or Ben! 😂💚🐾

💚 Meet Bugsy 💚

10-year-old Labrador Bugsy recently came in for surgery to remove a large, infected mass affecting one of the toes on his left hind foot.

X-rays showed significant soft tissue swelling but, reassuringly, no obvious involvement of the underlying bone. Chest X-rays also showed no obvious evidence of spread.

The affected toe was completely amputated and has been sent to the laboratory for histopathology, which will tell us exactly what the mass is and whether it is cancerous.

Bugsy recovered well from his surgery, and we now wait for those important results. 🐾💚

🐱 Meet Charlie! 💚

Handsome Charlie is a 2-year-old Domestic Shorthair who came in today to be neutered.
Charlie was a unilateral inguinal cryptorchid, meaning one testicle had descended normally (pictured), while the other had remained in his groin rather than reaching the sc***um.

Retained testicles have an increased risk of problems later in life, including tumours, so it’s important that both are removed.

Charlie’s surgery went smoothly and he recovered brilliantly! 💚🐾
