🐎 Did you know? The adductor muscles on the inside of your horse’s hind legs do a lot more than just pull the leg inwards. Every time your horse trots, canters, turns, or plays in the field, there are moments when a huge amount of weight is being supported by just one hind leg. The adductors help keep everything stable and stop the limb from drifting out to the side.

When these muscles aren’t working as well as they should, this is when you can notice things like drifting, loss of straightness, wobbliness in turns, or difficulty with lateral work. Sometimes the muscles we can’t easily see are the ones doing some of the hardest work πŸŽπŸ’™

Today is not about the massage BUT about seeing signs early πŸ‘€

3 years ago(2023) my beautiful Hazel started rejecting cheek rubs and touching her head, instead of cuddles I got showned pinned ears and walking away from me πŸ˜’
I checked everything but her dental check up was last on the list and then I wished it could have been first.
I took her to the Equine Dental clinic and results were shocking 😲 I have to mention she had dental checks every single year she was with me.

It resulted in 2 teeth extractions, plus 6 fillings and recovering a gum disease called diastema (Diastema is the clinical term for a gap or space between two teeth)

Luckily I took her there in time and everything is under control πŸ˜‡ and improving every time πŸ™ and most importantly Hazel is pain free πŸ™Œ

Horses are incredibly good at adapting. They compensate, adjust, and keep working long before they show obvious signs that something feels uncomfortable. That is why bodywork appointments are often about far more than simply β€œfixing” a problem. They are part of a much bigger picture of supporting long-term comfort, movement, and performance.

The good news? Some of the biggest differences often come from the little things owners do consistently between appointments. Tiny habits can help maintain mobility, reduce tension build-up, improve body awareness, and allow owners to spot changes much earlier before they become bigger issues.

Here are five simple but incredibly effective things owners can do between bodywork visits that genuinely support their horse’s musculoskeletal health:
