Unfortunately our lake has tested positive for blue green algae which means our September tests will be unable to go ahead as planned, water training is also cancelled until further notice :( It's certainly been an unprecedentedly hot summer, however we are proud to say that we have been testing the lake regularly throughout the last few months to keep our dogs, members and visitors safe, not just relying on third parties.

We are disappointed to have to cancel the remaining NNC test so apologise to everyone that had already made plans to attend and support us.

We will continue to test the lake and provide updates in due course. Until then we look forward to seeing everyone at other clubs' events for the remainder of the water season.

A huge thank you to the Newfoundland Club and everyone involved in organising and running another fabulous event for the club’s 150th anniversary.

MWN members attended this year as a group. We pitched in to help set up the working areas with members from Fenland so the trials were ready for Saturday morning. Once that was done, Rob provided a wonderful meal for us all. I was starving, so very much appreciated the food.

We didn’t win the quiz night, again this year. Perhaps we should not do shots during and between rounds.

The rally field was packed this year and it was a wonderful atmosphere with friends from many different groups. We welcomed many of them around our table for food and laughter each evening (lots of laughter).

Our dogs managed to secure places in all three disciplines - water trials, carting and obedience. I think every single one of us had something to celebrate, as all the dogs did us proud.

A few of us may have been slightly “drunk in charge” for Working Carts, thank you Sara for the gin, it was lovely. ☺️

Saturday was the A and B standardised tests and again the dogs smashed it, with a notable first time B pass for Aster and Ness, and a multi pass in B for Lillibet. Each and every dog did so well. 💜

On a personal note, Izzy proved me a liar and did another excellent stranger rescue, two days running, which if you’ve seen me at any test event you’ll know is her nemesis element. Huge thanks to Jay for all his work getting her there, it wouldn’t have happened without him.

Very proud of our group, not just the wonderful dogs but the people too, who pitch in when needed or even when they’re not. Always ready to help anyone who needs it, with a smile on their face every minute doing it.

Finally, a massive thank you to all the judges, stewards, and everyone who worked both days to make this a great event.

If you’ve never been to the Lenches weekend, put it in your calendar for next year. It is a weekend not to miss!

Another fantastic day of training in the sunshine today! ☀️🐾

We'll now be taking a short break for a couple of weeks while we attend the Newfoundland Club Water Trials and WNC Water Tests.

Training will recommence on Sunday 2nd August so please get in touch if you're interested in working with your Newfie in the water. We still have plenty of sessions left this year so it's not too late to join.

We would also like to announce that after the great success of our first water test in June, we are now hosting a 2nd test weekend on 26th & 27th September at Holme Pierrepont. Further details coming soon!

Some of the MWN team attended the SEWN - Working Newfoundlands July water tests this weekend - I think you can see from the pictures how much the dogs and handlers enjoyed themselves! The sun was shining all weekend and we had some great successes. Rosie & Holly passed their A tests, another B & C pass for Lillibet, a first time D pass for Tobi and Mike also achieved his D multipass. There were some great attempts and progress for the dogs at all levels.

For those not wishing to attend the test weekend we still had training on at Holme Pierrepont.

Midlands Working Newfoundlands would like to say a huge thank you to the National Lottery for awarding us funding earlier this year.

Thanks to this support, we've been able to add a second Northern Diver boat to our fleet, along with purchasing vital safety equipment to help train our dogs in water rescue.

As a community group, we're always keen to welcome new faces. Whether you'd like to learn more about Newfoundlands, meet the dogs, or even get involved, we'd love to see you.

Later this summer we'll also be hosting a Water Fun Day open to all breeds, giving dogs and their owners the opportunity to have a go at water work while promoting water safety in a fun and supportive environment.
