The legend that is Lil helping during Ozzy's session last week 🥰

During our session we worked towards Ozzy meeting Lil; we used some pattern games, parallel walking and play, and by the end of the session they were comfortably walking side by side sniffing 🐾

This was the first time Ozzy has had a positive interaction with a new dog in such a long time, and he did so well 🌟

As well as meeting Lil he coped so well with the environment which was busy with lots of unknown dogs, children, lawn mowing and traffic! This would have been impossible for him just a few short months ago 🌞

What wonderful progress he has made, I am so proud of him and his fantastic owners 😃

Lovely session with Gem the rescue GSD earlier this week. Gem struggles with reactivity; her main triggers are people, other dogs and cars 🚗

Our first in person session was really tricky for her ... I could not get anywhere near her without sending her over threshold .... we had to be so far away that her poor owner could barely hear me! 🤯

Gem's owner has been working really hard on the plan I have put together for them, which included:
🥰 Breed specific enrichment
🙌 Management around the house and garden
🐕‍🦺 Changing from a slip lead to a well fitted harness
🌟 Teaching and proofing pattern games
🐾 Teaching and proofing some new skills

During our session we spent some time getting her feeling more comfortable in my presence which is going to be important as we move forward. One of the activities we did was set up an ACE freework station 🌞

The ACE freework concept was developed by the wonderful Sarah Fisher; it is a dog led activity that helps build confidence and support emotional wellbeing 🐕

For Gem I wanted to give her something else to think about (other than me!). Giving her an independent, low arousal activity that involves a little movement on her part (being still can be so hard for reactive dogs!) can really help with her feeling more comfortable around triggers 🧀

Working with reactivity should not be explosive or dramatic ..... It should not look like you are fighting with your dog 🥊

Progress is made where we assess all aspects of the dogs life, ensure their needs are met, meet the dog where they are currently at, take the time to teach them new behaviours in a kind way and then slowly introduce them to triggers at a pace and distance that they can cope with.... always being ready to help them out if needed 👍

I am so looking forward to continuing this journey with Gem and her owner one step at a time 👌

Gorgeous Margo attended her first ever group class this morning; at only 8 weeks old she was the youngest (and smallest!) in class 🐶

I take extra care in class that we do not overwhelm smaller or less confident pups; I want everyone to thrive in their sessions 🐾

Margo spent some time watching from the comfort of her parent's laps initially to suss everything out. After around 10 mins she decided that she wanted to get involved in class too! What a superstar! 🌟

Early socialisation in a kind, pup led way is so important in building positive associations and life long skills 🐶

I run group classes on Sunday mornings for pups age 8 weeks - 18 months, please check out my website below to learn more about me 🌞
