TweedDogs Training and Behaviour

TweedDogs Training and Behaviour This led to me attending numerous seminars, workshops and reading every book available.

TweedDogs Training & Behaviour offers 1to1 Puppy Sessions covering all aspects of puppy care (including preventing separation anxiety); and 1to1 training & behaviour sessions aimed at adult dogs who are struggling with basic obedience or reactivity. Laura has been studying dog training and behaviour since 2011 after owning a dog with severe behavioural issues. “I didn’t understand then why he was

behaving in the way he was – I wanted to learn why a dog might behave in a certain way and why what I was doing wasn’t working. It’s taken many years and a newly acquired fascination with science (something that completely eluded me at school) to now realise what I was doing wrong (and yes, I admit I made mistakes). I am an accredited member of the IMDTB (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers & Behaviourists), a Certified Dog Behaviourist with INTODogs, an accredited CPD trainer and am currently undergoing assessment with the APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers)

“The primary and MOST IMPORTANT time for puppy socialisation is the first three months of life. During this time puppies should be exposed to as many new people, animals, stimuli and environments as can be achieved safely and without causing over stimulation manifested as excessive fear, withdrawal or avoidance behaviour. For this reason, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior believes that it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialisation before they are fully vaccinated. Because the first three months are the period when sociability outweighs fear, this is the primary window of opportunity for puppies to adapt to new people, animals, and experiences. Incomplete or improper socialization during this important time can increase the risk of behavioural problems later in life including fear, avoidance, and/or aggression. Behavioural problems are the greatest threat to the owner-dog bond. In fact, behavioural problems are the number one cause of relinquishment to animal rescue centres. Behavioural issues, not infectious diseases, are the number one cause of death for dogs under three years of age”
