Meet the owner & the business💁🏻♀️
Hello and welcome. My name is Flo and I am the owner and founder of Paws & Paths by Flo. First of all, let me tell you just a little bit about myself and my own pets!
I am currently 19 years old and have always had a love for animals, especially dogs and cats! Growing up I had a Jack Russel cross Cairn Terrier named Zara, (pictured sat next to me on the laptop below) and she was my absolute world! We got her when I was just a baby, and she grew up with me all the way until May 2023, where she peacefully passed of old age at the age of 15 (Almost 16!). I also have a full ginger female cat named Gypsy, who we rescued from being a stray back in 2016. She is still with us, and misses her bestfriend Zara very much! My love for animals is ever-growing and this business is my absolute dream job. Over the years I have found myself gravitate more and more to animals, and that is also what made me decide on my previous studies.
Now for the serious stuff!
I studied the Level 3 Extended Technical Diploma in Animal Care & Management at college, however have now decided to start my venture into the working world. With this being said, I have vast knowledge and experience on animal behaviour, welfare, health and management. This means an unhappy animal will not go unnoticed or uncared for, and that they will always be looked after to the highest level of safety and respect. I will always be vigilant and on the ball with any signs of danger, poor health, poor wellbeing or poor mental state within an animal and will defuse the situation immediately upon noticing. I aim to in the coming months acquire a full doggy first aid kit, in order to be prepared for all possible instances.
As well as the areas I am trained in within the classroom, I have gained lots of hands on experience with animals of all types due to my college studies. I have spent time with horses, snakes, lizards, geckos, ferrets, hedgehogs, chickens, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits and many, many more! I currently volunteer at a wildlife rescue centre as part of my college training and am caring for various birds and small animals that have been rescued from ill health or injury. I often build great bonds with animals and find that they acclimatise to my calm and laid back nature.
Due to my other part time job, currently my schedule is more limited than I would like it to be, however there are still ample slots available around my schedule! I look to have as many walks and as many check ins as I can fit in around my schedule, whilst making sure all pups receive the best care and love possible!
When walking dogs, I strive to ensure they feel a range of terrain and are mentally stimulated, so I aim to bring them to grassy areas, woodlands and trails. I am also happy to take requests as to where the dog is comfortable walking, and usual routes you may take your doggo regularly, to keep things familiar if needed/preferred!
It’s important that I have a clear outline of the day-to-day personality traits of the pup, temperament, behaviour habits and any triggers they may have (e.g cats, sudden noises, other dogs, vehicles) that may cause them distress if confronted with. This will aid me in a smooth and non stressful walk/check in for the dog.
