One of the first things I notice when I arrive to walk a dog or pet sit a dog, is their excitement. The zoomies, the spinning in circles, the wagging tail, the eager looks towards the door — they’re often telling us something important.
Dogs naturally build up physical and mental energy throughout the day. A walk isn’t just about exercise; it’s an opportunity to explore, sniff, learn, and release that excitement in a healthy way.
When dogs don’t have an outlet for their energy, it can sometimes show up as restlessness, jumping up, barking, or difficulty settling. Regular walks help them regulate their emotions, reduce stress, and return home feeling calmer and more content.
As dog owners, walkers, sitters, it’s important to listen to what our dogs are communicating.
Giving our dogs the opportunity to move, explore, and engage with the world is one of the best ways we can support their wellbeing. A happy walk often leads to a happier, more balanced dog. 🐾
