There has been outbreaks in Worcester area
⚠️ Parvovirus alert for local dog owners
We have been made aware of a reported outbreak of canine parvovirus in Worcester.
Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease. Puppies and unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated dogs are particularly vulnerable, but any dog whose vaccinations are not up to date may be at risk.
The virus spreads through infected faeces and contaminated environments and can be carried on shoes, clothing and other objects. Direct contact with an infected dog is not required.
Please check your dog’s vaccination record. If you’re unsure whether they’re protected, or their vaccinations have lapsed, call us on 01299 333335. We can check their records and advise whether they need a vaccination or restart course.
Until you have spoken to us, keep unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated dogs away from places used by other dogs, including parks, communal walking areas, daycare and training classes.
Signs of parvovirus can include:
🐾 Severe or persistent diarrhoea, sometimes containing blood
🐾 Vomiting
🐾 Marked lethargy or weakness
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Abdominal discomfort
🐾 Rapid dehydration
If your dog develops these signs—particularly if they are a puppy or aren’t fully vaccinated—please seek veterinary advice urgently.
Call us before bringing them to the practice. This allows us to make arrangements that reduce the risk of exposing other dogs.
Vaccination is the most effective way to protect dogs against parvovirus. If you have any doubts about your dog’s protection, please contact us rather than waiting for symptoms to appear.
