🐾 Everyone say hello to Roy! 🐾

This handsome little Border Terrier is just 11 weeks old and has recently joined his new family. ❤️

Roy will be joining our Pathway to Success classes once he’s fully vaccinated, and I can’t wait to watch him grow in confidence, learn new skills and start his training journey.

The first few weeks with a puppy are about so much more than teaching sits and downs. Building confidence, creating positive experiences and helping them learn about the world around them are all incredibly important foundations for the future.

I’m looking forward to sharing Roy’s progress as he works his way through the Pathway to Success programme. 🐶

🤔 Is your dog secretly plotting a household takeover?

If your Labrador has claimed the sofa, your Spaniel steals socks, or your Terrier barks at the postman, you’ve probably heard someone say:

“He’s trying to be the alpha.”

The reality? Probably not.

Modern behaviour science tells us that dogs aren’t trying to dominate us or become “pack leaders”. In most cases, behaviours are driven by emotions, habits, learning history and the environment around them.

🐾 A dog pulling on lead isn’t trying to take charge.
🐾 A dog barking at visitors isn’t staging a coup.
🐾 A dog ignoring a recall isn’t plotting world domination.

They’re simply responding to what’s happening around them with the skills they currently have.

The language we use matters because labels like “dominant”, “stubborn” or “pack leader” can stop us looking at what’s really going on.

When we focus on understanding “why” rather than controlling, that’s where real progress happens 🦮

We have the pleasure of judging again at this years dog show alongside Charlotte at WY Pet Grooming, Clifton, Brighouse! Hope to see you all there 🥰

Bring your little furry friends along to our fun dog show at the Day at the Stray on Sunday 30th August. Judging by Holly at YES Canine Behaviour & Training and Charlotte at WY Pet Grooming, Clifton, Brighouse starts at 3pm, registration from 1pm. Prize for the winner.

Many people imagine behaviour training looks like this:

❌ Barking
❌ Lunging
❌ Chaos on the end of the lead

But most of the important work happens long before any of that.

This dog is learning to:

✔️ Observe the world without reacting
✔️ Take information in calmly
✔️ Feel safe around potential triggers
✔️ Make better choices when things happen around them

For many reactive dogs, progress isn’t measured by perfection.

It’s measured by those small moments where they can look, process and remain calm.

Because the goal isn’t a perfectly obedient dog.

The goal is a dog who feels more confident, more secure and better able to cope with the world around them.

You might have noticed I’ve been a little quiet recently as I’ve had a bit of a distraction!

Myself and Liam tied the knot yesterday at the gorgeous Oakwell Hall with our closest family & friends!
