Sunnyside Nursing Home Thank You For Having Us!
Leah and Reggie recently visited Sunnyside Nursing Home for a creative activity session, bringing plenty of calm energy, curiosity, and gentle interaction to the room.
Residents took part in a relaxed creative activity alongside the dogs, with plenty of opportunity to stroke, observe, and engage with them throughout. What stood out most wasn’t just the activity itself, but how naturally conversation and connection flowed while the dogs were present.
Sessions like this can make a real difference in care settings. Therapy dogs often help reduce feelings of isolation, encourage communication between residents who may not usually engage with each other, and create a sense of familiarity and comfort in an unfamiliar routine. Even short interactions can support mood, lower stress levels, and bring moments of enjoyment that feel spontaneous rather than clinical or structured.
For many residents, it’s the combination of creativity and calm animal interaction that works so well—hands are busy, minds are gently engaged, and the presence of the dogs helps create a softer, more relaxed atmosphere where people feel more open and connected.
A lovely visit with meaningful moments throughout.
