Early this morning, Indie and I headed to see the new toy box at Charlie's Toy Trade Box. As you may be aware, this little community project has been subjected to repeated acts of vandalism lately 😔

A new, more secure toy box, handmade and gifted by Dave to this wonderful voluntary community project, which was started by the lovely Amberly and her little furry side kick Charlie 🧡

I was delighted to be in on the secret after Dave reached out to me for help in getting Amberly there for a surprise unveiling 🕵‍♀️

Dave really has thought of everything - there's a water dispenser and bowl, treat caddies, storage boxes for the toys and teddies, it's secured to the railings, and the doors lock. Hopefully, these measures will be a deterrent to any further mindless vandalism 🙏

Indie had great fun checking it out, although she's not really a fan of toys, she is a fan of treats, so the treat caddies were an instant hit, resulting in an official "second breakfast" 😆

Honestly, it gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling that that despite whatever else is going on in the world, there are many wonderful humans spreading joy and community spirit through acts of kindness 💖

⚽️ World Cup fever is exciting for us (well, some of us 🙄), but it can also be quite stressful for our pets ⚽️

Family gatherings, watch along get togethers, unfamiliar visitors, loud cheering, alcohol related behaviours, disrupted routines, and late nights can all overwhelm our pets, leaving them feeling anxious, stressed, and exhausted.

Even if you don't participate in match fever and frivolities yourself, the noise of neighbours and revellers in the street can have an emotional impact on our pets too.

A bit like Christmas or firework season, some planning ahead can really help:

🐶 Create a safe, quiet space away from the noise for your dog

🐶 Advocate for your them - remind visitors not to overwhelm or overexcite them

🐶 Keep their walking, feeding, and bedtime routine as normal as possible

🐶 Provide them with enrichment toys/activies such as filled kongs, lickimats, and snuffle mats.

🐈 🐇 🐹 consider keeping your cat in a quiet room with a litter tray, away from the noise, move hutches and cages to a quieter area, room or shed (checking temperatures are safe) to help prevent stress in the event of random fireworks

⚠️ and monitor the front door - it's easy to take our eye off the ball (pun intended) with front doors especially in social situations, even if your dog has been a social butterfly at your gathering, in the blink of an eye an open front door and a distracted human can be an opportunity not to be missed for some dogs, with devastating consequences.

Ending the week with a visit to Piper 🧡

This handsome chap is a 'Turkish Van' - quite a rare breed cat with the characteristics of a white body and orange tail and top of head, often with orange eyes, some love water.

Legend has it that the first Turkish Van was on Noahs Ark, but was completely white. This white cat fled the Ark, catching its tail in a door, turning it orange. Swimming to shore, where upon reaching dry land, God blessed the cat by touching it gently on the head, turning it orange like its tail.

Cool folk lore !

However it came to be, Piper is one darn adorable redhead 🧡
