Dudley. Final session on the Dog Reset.
Four weeks ago walks were a nightmare. Anything could set him off. You never knew what was coming.
Today we walked through town. Past everything. Loose lead the whole way.
He's not ignoring the distractions because he can't see them. He just doesn't care.
Four weeks. Right foundations. Owner who showed up and did the work every single day.
I just gave them the system.

You've walked him for 2 hours and he's still climbing the walls.

Sound familiar?

Here's what nobody tells you. Marching a high drive dog round the block on a tight lead isn't fulfilment. It's just miles. And more miles builds a fitter dog who needs even more tomorrow.

You walk further, he gets fitter, so you walk further again. You're not draining the tank. You're building a bigger one.
These dogs were bred to work and to cover ground. A dog stuck on a 1 metre lead, never allowed to just be a dog, is a frustrated dog.

Real fulfilment is two things. A job, like scent work, engagement and proper training. And freedom, off lead, sniffing, running, being a dog. Not endless laps of the pavement.

Get those two right and the hyperactivity sorts itself out. Your dog isn't hyperactive. He's under fulfilled.

THE UK DOG HEAT GUIDE.

Most owners don't realise UK dogs aren't built for heat. We get a few hot weeks a year. Dogs in Spain, Italy, Dubai have been adapting their whole lives. Yours hasn't.

So 25°C in Gloucester hits very differently to 25°C in Madrid.
Working breeds are the biggest risk. Mals and GSDs don't quit when they're overheating. They keep working until they drop. That's what makes them brilliant. That's also what kills them in heat.

A few things most owners get wrong:
- If you can't hold your palm on the pavement for 7 seconds, it's too hot for paws.
- If it's 22°C outside and your dog is in a car, it's 47°C inside within minutes.
- Humidity makes everything worse. UK humid heat is brutal compared to dry heat abroad.
- Hot weather isn't an excuse to skip training. It just changes the training. Switch to scent work, short structured sessions, mental engagement before the sun comes up. Heat doesn't stop the work. It changes the work.

Massive credit to these legends!!

They took on a 2-year-old rescue Rottie. Could've made every excuse, rescue dog, previous handler, big breed, you name it.

Instead they got stuck in. Did the work. Showed up every session.

A dog Reset later - long walks without dread, calm passes with other dogs, confidence in themselves AND the dog.

That's not me. That's them.
All I did was give them the system.

If you're leaving your food down all day, why would they work for a piece of kibble in a field?

A dog that wants more is a dog that's easier to train.
