My first outing with Spirit, nice and close to home at Mundole Equestrian. We’ve had a mixed week with me taking a tumble on Wednesday but it’s just getting to understand each other and these things happen. I’m so grateful to Aiva Fraser for being my warm up rider (crash test dummy!) today as it was blowing an absolute hoolie and cold.
We played it safe and did the silver test. He was such a good boy and we came 1st with a very respectable 69.76% which I am delighted with. Comments were around needing more energy which I am OK with as I was being cautious about pushing him in a new environment, not the best day etc.
So very happy with how he behaved and also the cheese covered chips which were pretty good too!!
Massive thanks to Moray Riding Club for changing the schedule to include para and also to Gillian Peters for coming through to judge.

So, it’s maybe about time I introduced Spirit to you. We’ve had a crazy year and after getting the lovely wee Chestnut mare earlier in the year who really needed an able bodied family, I’ve been a bit nervous about committing to Spirit. However, 5 weeks with only him at Talland, after Forest had to go home, and I am now completely in love.

So, here is is…. Passport name Dreifachenschoen kh (oh yes, I can’t wait to hear the commentators reading that one out), he’s just turned 8 and is a German Riding Pony.
He’s about 14.1h/14.2h and is a complete dude. He’s everything a pony should be, affectionate, very cheeky and an absolute chancer!
He’s got a fairly extensive record with kids riding him at intro and prelim in Italy. He won’t go faster than he absolutely has to, so we are working on that, but in the field he’s an absolute loony, bucking and running around. His movement, especially his walk, is stunning. Forest is having some down time for the rest of the year so I will be getting Spirit out to some local competitions and see how we get on.

I hope we have lots of years together.

It’s been a crazy summer. After the British Dressage Para Home Nations, we went to the yard of Sir Lee Pearson. I had 3 days training on both Forest and Spirit and it was amazing. I learned so much and left with so much to work on. A highlight of the trip was being allowed to ride his incredible horse, Zion, who he won a gold medal at the Rio Paralympics on, along with a host of other medals.
Home now, and back to reality!

A fantastic couple of days down at Pickering Grange with the best boy, Forest, competing at the Para Home nations and representing Scotland. I hadn’t ridden Forest for 5 weeks so it was weird hopping on him again, but he’s the best pony and we fit so well together. We had 2 good, consistent days, with 67.875% and 67.371% in the silver test to give me overall 3rd in my individual grade. The Scottish team was fantastic as we only had 3 in our team. We were marginally in 1st place at the end of Day 1 but were pipped to the post on Day 2 with the Irish team ending 0.67 points ahead of us, but absolutely brilliant to take 2nd place overall.

Massive, massive thanks to the private sponsors who made this so much more manageable for us including Nicky Gray for our team shirts, and the sponsors who kindly paid for our stabling and entry fees - THANK YOU!

Forest was super not happy to be kept in all night with no food and Mum removing his water at 5am! Scope done this morning by the wonderful Joke Robaer of Moray Coast Veterinary and all clear. It’s actually pretty amazing how clean it all was given the travelling and competition he does. Some small lesions but nothing out of the ordinary.

Jack is sighing a breath of relief as it means that he doesn’t have to do the trip down to Pickering Grange next week!

So happy that Forest is on the mend. Just need to get some more weight on him now.
