Meet Basil, who came in for a routine health check before his flea and worming treatment.

We’re pleased to report he passed with flying colours and was a very good boy in the process.

Regular health checks give us the chance to spot any changes early, keep preventative care up to date and, just as importantly, provide plenty of treats and cuddles.

UPDATE: Phones and emails are back up and running so you will be able to contact us when we are open again tomorrow. Thank you to all our wonderful clients for your understanding 😊

A quick update from Family Vets

We’re currently experiencing some technical issues affecting our phones, internet and computer systems at the practice.

Our team is working to get everything back up and running as soon as possible, but in the meantime you may have difficulty getting through to us or experience a delay in our response.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience and really appreciate your patience while we get things sorted.

We’ll update you here as soon as everything is back to normal.

Thank you

A lot can happen behind the scenes at Family Vets before we decide on the next step for your pet. 🔬🐾

One of the things we’re particularly proud of is our in-house laboratory, which gives our team access to a range of diagnostic equipment right here at the practice.

You might spot a few of these machines in the photos:

- Our VETSCAN in-house diagnostic equipment allows us to run a range of tests here at the practice, including blood chemistry and haematology, giving our vets valuable information about a patient’s health without automatically having to send samples to an external laboratory.

- Our Grundium digital microscope scanner takes this a step further, allowing us to create high-resolution digital images of microscope slides for detailed examination and when needed, expert review.

Having this technology within Family Vets means that for many cases, we can investigate and gather useful diagnostic information without automatically having to send samples away to an external laboratory.

But the machines are only one part of the picture.

The important bit is combining those results with a thorough examination, your pet’s history and the experience of our veterinary team to decide what they actually mean for the patient in front of us.

That’s care crafted with conscience.

If your pet is unwell or something simply doesn’t seem right, contact the Family Vets team. We have the facilities, experience and equipment here to investigate a wide range of concerns.

You might already know us better than you think. 💚

If you’ve been following Family Vets here on Facebook, you’ve probably met the team, seen behind the scenes, followed some of our patients’ stories and watched our little independent practice come to life.

But if your pet isn’t registered with us yet, this is your reminder that you don’t have to wait until you need a vet to join us.

Registering now means that when it’s time for a vaccination, health check or something unexpected happens, you already know where to turn.

We’re an independent, family-run veterinary practice in Rowledge, welcoming dogs, cats and their people from Farnham and the surrounding area.

So if you’ve been following from the sidelines and like what Family Vets stands for, we’d love to have you as part of it.

After all, you’re already part of our Facebook family.

Perhaps it’s time to make your pet part of the Family too.

Routine pet care has a habit of coming around quickly. Vaccinations, worming, flea and tick treatment… and suddenly several things need sorting at once.

Our Family Care Plan is designed to make preventative care simpler, while spreading the cost across the year with one monthly Direct Debit.

The plan includes:

🐾 Complete vaccinations and an annual health check
🐾 Kennel cough vaccination for dogs, if needed
🐾 Complete parasite treatment, including lungworm and ticks
🐾 12 months of worming treatment

And because cats and dogs have different needs, the monthly cost is based on your pet:

🐱 Cats: £13 per month
🐶 Dogs 0–20kg: £16.50 per month
🐶 Dogs over 20kg: £19.50 per month

There’s also a one-off £5 set-up fee charged by Vetsure, who administer the plan on our behalf.

It means the essentials are planned for, the cost is spread throughout the year, and regular preventative care becomes one less thing to worry about.

Because looking after your pet isn’t only about being there when they’re poorly. It’s about helping to keep them well, too.

Care crafted with conscience.

It’s more than a slogan. It’s the thinking behind Family Vets.

For us, good veterinary care isn’t simply about what can be done. It’s about taking the time to consider what’s right for each individual pet and the family who loves them.

It means listening before making decisions.

Explaining the options clearly.

Using our experience and modern equipment thoughtfully.

Being honest when a treatment is needed, and equally honest when it isn’t.

And remembering that behind every patient is someone who knows them, worries about them and trusts us to do the right thing.

That’s what care crafted with conscience means to us.

Thoughtful veterinary care, guided by what’s best for the animal in front of us.

It’s how we wanted Family Vets to feel from the very beginning, and it’s something we’ll continue to stand by every day.

If this sounds like the kind of veterinary care you want for your pet, we’d love to welcome you to Family Vets. https://www.family-vets.co.uk/

Sometimes the smallest things can cause a surprising amount of trouble… 🌱

This lovely girl came to see us after suddenly starting to retch. Her owners had noticed her playing with grass in the garden, and when we examined her, she was very sensitive around her throat.

We were concerned that a piece of grass might have become lodged somewhere it shouldn’t.

With her owners’ permission, we sedated her so we could investigate properly. And there it was...

A 10cm blade of grass lodged in her nasopharynx, the area behind the nose and above the back of the throat.

Thankfully, we were able to carefully remove it, and she’s expected to make a full recovery.

It’s a good example of why a sudden change in your pet’s behaviour shouldn’t be ignored. Retching, repeated swallowing, gagging, coughing or obvious discomfort around the mouth or throat can all be signs that something isn’t right.

Not sure if something’s wrong? Give us a call. We’d always rather you got in touch so we can help decide the best next step for your pet.

A year without Ruby.

Today marks one year since we said goodbye to a very special member of our family.

Those who have followed Family Vets from the beginning will already know just how much Ruby means to us. She was more than a much-loved dog. In many ways, she became part of the reason Family Vets looks and feels the way it does today.

And although she never got to walk through the doors of the finished practice, she’s everywhere when we do.

Her paw print lives on in our logo.

The plants outside our front door were chosen in her honour.

And most importantly, the love, loyalty and companionship she gave our family helped shape the kind of veterinary practice we wanted to create.

One built around the understanding that a pet is never just a pet.

A year on, Ruby is still very much part of Family Vets.

Today, we’re remembering our girl and celebrating everything she gave us.

Give your pets an extra cuddle from us today, in memory of Ruby.

Back to school doesn’t just change the family routine. Your pets notice it too.

After weeks of children being at home, later mornings, family days out and plenty of extra company, September can suddenly mean a much quieter house.

For some pets, that change won’t bother them at all. For others, being left alone again can take a little getting used to.

A few things can help:

- Ease back into the routine
If you can, start introducing periods of alone time before everyone returns to school or work.

- Give them something to do
Food puzzles and suitable enrichment can help keep dogs occupied when the house becomes quiet.

- Think about their morning routine
A good walk, playtime or some attention before you leave can help them settle afterwards.

- Look out for changes
Pacing, excessive barking, destructive behaviour, toileting indoors or becoming distressed as you prepare to leave can all suggest your dog is struggling.

- And remember the cats
Cats can be affected by changes in household routines too. Look out for changes in eating, toileting, grooming, hiding or behaviour.

September is a big adjustment for the whole household, including the four-legged members of the family.

If you are worried about any changes in your pet's behaviour or health, don't hesitate to give us a call. 01252 750322

September is here, and while we might not be ready to say goodbye to summer just yet, the change of season brings a few things for pet owners to keep in mind. 🍂

The evenings will gradually get darker, walks may get muddier, and curious noses will soon have a whole new collection of things to investigate.

A few simple habits can help as we head into autumn:

- Mud, small stones and debris can collect between toes. Give paws a quick check when you get home and dry them thoroughly if they’re wet.

- Autumn brings fungi and fallen fruit. Some wild mushrooms can be toxic to dogs, so it’s safest not to let them eat any while you’re out walking.

- Keep conkers and acorns out of reach. They might look like perfect toys to an inquisitive dog, but swallowing them can cause problems, including gastrointestinal upset and potentially a blockage.

- As daylight hours shorten, reflective leads, collars or lights can help make you and your dog easier to see near roads.

- Fleas and ticks don’t disappear just because summer is ending. Keep your pet’s preventative treatments up to date throughout autumn.

- As temperatures drop, cats may seek out warm, sheltered places around parked cars. A quick check before setting off is a useful habit, particularly if cats roam where you park.

- And, if you notice anything unusual, don't hesitate to give us a call.

Here’s to plenty of crisp autumn walks, muddy paws and cosy evenings ahead.
