This week our Vet Holly had a visit from Biff and Arnold, two of our lovely hand reared kittens, that were brought into the practice at a day old by a kind member of the public, after they were found in an industrial bin.

Now they are 9wks old they came for their first official visit.
They both received a full health check, the first part of their primary vaccination course, received flea and worming treatment and were microchipped.

We are currently running a fantastic offer for new puppies and kittens for £99.
See in practice or on our website for more details 🐈‍⬛

It’s week 6, and our little orphaned ‘bin kittens’ are continuing to thrive and grow.
Under the ever watchful eye, of their surrogate Mummy Newt (the whippet) they’re learning to explore their environment to the full and desensitising to all the usual household appliances like washing machines and the hoover.
They are now fully weaned and enjoying kitten food.

They certainly are keeping us on our toes! Vets

Today we bid a very sad farewell to our wonderful receptionist Jacqui.

Jacqui has been part of the Waverley family for over twenty years, and will be very familiar to many of you, with her cheery smile, Jacqui is always ready for a chat!

We’ll miss you Jacqui!

Today we had an unlikely visitor to the practice!

This poor pigeon was lost mid race, after making his journey all the way from Guernsey, he ran out of steam.

Luckily he had to good sense to know where to come for help.

We took him in and searched the Racing Pigeon Association Database, giving the details on his leg ring. Luckily, we managed to contact his worried owner within the hour, and safe transportation is now being arranged to get him home.

If you find a Racing pigeon wandering around (they will have a ring on their leg) please take them to your nearest vet.

Once they have been knocked off course it’s very difficult for them to get back home safely.

Safe onward travels little man 🐦

Meet Janet, Biff, Audrey and Arnold 🩷

Just over four weeks ago these tiny bundles were rushed into the practice by a member of the public after he found them in a Biffa Bin.

At just 24hrs old, with umbilical cords still attached, their chances of survival were incredibly slim. Sadly two didn’t make it, but with a lot of team work, sleepless nights and dedicated nursing, we have four thriving healthy kittens.

I’m so incredibly proud of the team for pulling together to help during the day while Head Nurse Lucy (plus her incredibly understanding husband, Michael) have been taking all the night feeds which involves feeding every two hours.

Obviously we still have a way to go but so far these lucky ‘bin babies’ have a promising future.

This is a great example of the hard work and dedication I have come to admire and appreciate from Shortheath Vets.
