Bella and Vinnie out enjoying their walk with us today 🐾

Bella suffers from really bad arthritis so she only comes out with us once a week alongside Vinnie.

With Bella it’s not about how far we walk or how much exercise she gets, it’s more about getting her out, having a good sniff and enjoying some time outside with Vinnie.

We always take things at her pace and make sure she’s comfortable and not overdoing it.

Not every dog needs a long walk, especially older dogs or dogs with health problems. Sometimes just getting out for a little walk, having a sniff and a change of scenery is more than enough.

It’s always lovely seeing these two out together and Bella still absolutely loves her walks!

Does anyone else have a dog that suffers from arthritis? What do you do to help keep them active and happy?

Rosie working on her loose lead walking during one of our Walk & Train sessions!

Today we were focusing on getting Rosie to walk nicely without pulling, keeping her attention on me and learning that staying close and checking in makes the walk much more enjoyable.

Loose lead walking takes time, patience and consistency. It’s not about getting everything perfect straight away, it’s about making small improvements each session and building good habits that last.

Really happy with how Rosie is progressing!

Another lovely walk with this Golden Retriever around Fareham today!

If you’re based in Fareham or the surrounding areas and looking for a reliable dog walker, I currently have some spaces available for solo and small group walks!

At Hudson Hounds Training, I like to get to know every dog before introducing them into a group.

We start with a meet and greet, followed by 2 solo trial walks so your dog can get comfortable with me. Once they’re ready, we can slowly introduce them to a suitable small group of no more than 4 dogs.

All walks include collection and drop off, with dogs travelling safely in my fully insured van.

If you’re in Fareham, Portchester, Titchfield or the surrounding areas and need help with dog walking, drop me a message!

Keeping the groups small means I can make sure every dog gets the attention they need while still getting all the benefits of walking and socialising with other dogs.

I don’t just put dogs straight into a group either. We start with a meet & greet, followed by solo trial walks so I can get to know your dog and make sure they’re comfortable before introducing them to the right group.

It’s all about finding the right dogs to walk together and keeping the walks safe, controlled and enjoyable.

Little walk with Pickles today, he’s a Dachshund and is great with other dogs.

I’m looking for a couple more dogs around the Fareham or Titchfield area that would be suitable to join him for a small group walk on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

With any new dog I always do a meet and greet first, then a solo trial walk so they can get to know me and I can see what they’re like out on a walk. After that I’ll slowly introduce them to the other dogs before adding them into a regular group.

I always keep my groups small and make sure the dogs are suited to each other.

Dog walking trick for dogs that can’t be trusted off lead yet 👌

If you want to be hands free without getting tangled up in long lines, try using a carabiner clip and attaching your retractable lead to your belt.

It keeps the dog safely attached to you while giving them a bit more freedom to explore, and you’ve still got both hands free.

Just make sure the clip, belt and lead are secure and suitable for the size and strength of your dog.

Finn’s first trial walk with Hudson Hounds Training.

Whenever I take on a new dog for walking, I like to start with a solo/trial walk so I can properly get to know them before introducing them into any of my small group walks.

It gives me a chance to see how they are on the lead, their engagement with me, how they react around other dogs and people, their recall and just their general behaviour when out and about.

Finn did really well today and it was a great chance for us to start building that relationship and trust.

I never rush a dog straight into a group. Once I’m happy they’re comfortable with me and I know their personality, I can match them with the right dogs and start introducing them into a small group.

A little look at how we load up ready for our group walks.

Every dog travels safely and securely in their own crate in the van. I have space for around 5/6 dogs, with each crate giving them their own safe space while travelling.

The only time dogs will share a crate is if they are from the same household, similar in size and I know they are completely comfortable travelling together.

I keep my groups small so every dog can be managed properly from pick up, travelling in the van and throughout the walk.

Safety is always the priority. Dogs are loaded and unloaded individually, secured properly and we make sure everyone is settled before heading off.

This is all part of making group walks as safe, controlled and enjoyable as possible.
