Meet Mr Red 🐾❤️
Mr Red, one of Willow’s gorgeous Labrador puppies, first visited us with his breeder to see Vet Lizzie for his puppy health check and first vaccination.
During his examination, it was identified that he had a significant umbilical hernia. An umbilical hernia occurs when there is an opening in the abdominal wall around the belly button, allowing fat or, in Red's case, abdominal organs to protrude through. While some small hernias can be monitored, larger hernias often require surgical repair to prevent potential complications later in life.
After discussing the options, it was decided that the best course of action for Mr Red was to have his hernia repaired under general anaesthetic. We’re delighted to report that he was an absolute superstar & such a brave boy!💙
Early health checks are an important part of responsible breeding, helping to identify any concerns before puppies head off to their new homes. They also give us the opportunity to ensure puppies are growing and developing as expected, discuss preventative healthcare, and provide them with the best possible start in life.
Mr Red has recovered brilliantly from his surgery and is doing wonderfully. We couldn’t be happier with his progress and look forward to watching him continue to grow into a happy, healthy Labrador 🐶✨
