Did you know?

Dogs don’t just sense our stress.
They can mirror it.

Research measuring long-term cortisol levels has shown that dogs’ stress physiology often reflects the stress levels of the humans they live with.

When someone is navigating cancer treatment…
Illness…
Surgery recovery…
Burnout…
Or prolonged emotional strain…

Household nervous systems shift.

Routines change.
Energy changes.
Tone changes.

Dogs feel that.

Not because anyone is failing.
Because they are bonded.
Because they are biologically attuned.

During challenging seasons, calm structure matters.

Predictable routine.
Low-stimulation visits.
Steady presence.

That’s why my work focuses on nervous system-informed check-ins — supporting dogs living in real-life households under pressure.

About CMR Calm Canine Wellness

CMR Calm Canine Wellness was founded from a background in advanced mental health practice and nervous system-informed wellbeing.

Working extensively with emotional regulation has shaped my understanding of how stress physiology influences behaviour. Dogs, like humans, rely on a balanced autonomic nervous system — shifting between activation (stress response) and recovery (rest and restore).

When routines change, owners return to work, surgery occurs or environments shift, stress hormones such as cortisol can remain elevated. This can affect settling, behaviour and overall wellbeing.

Research across mammalian physiology shows that predictable routine, calm tone, low-stimulation environments and structured tactile interaction support the body’s recovery state. This contributes to emotional stability, safer adjustment and improved behavioural settling.

My work translates these evidence-informed principles into structured, in-home canine wellbeing visits.

I specialise in supporting anxious or sensitive dogs, puppies adjusting to routine, senior dogs, post-surgery recovery cases and dogs experiencing separation or environmental disruption.

Each visit is calm, intentional and regulation-focused — prioritising safety, consistency and emotional balance within the home environment.
