One of the hardest decisions we make for those we love is knowing when it’s time to let them go. 💔

Saying goodbye at home can bring a little comfort to an otherwise heartbreaking time. Familiar smells, favourite places and the people and companions they love around them can help make those final moments feel calm, peaceful, gentle and full of love.

A little bit of exciting news for Rainbow Bridge Vets… 🌻

From 31st October, weekend appointments will be available for families who need the gentle, peaceful support of a home visit at the weekend.

I know that for some families, being able to arrange an appointment around work, school and family life can make a difficult time just a little easier.

So, from the end of this month, you’ll be able to book a weekend home visit online alongside our weekday appointments.

Availability can be seen and appointments booked as usual through the website at rainbowbridgevets.co.uk

“No matter how you’re feeling, a little dog gonna love you 💕” And this not-so-little dog of mine, Alphie, certainly does!

There’s something very special about the bond we share with our dogs. They don’t care whether we’ve had a good day or a terrible one, whether we’re feeling happy, tired, grumpy or sad. They’re simply there, loving us exactly as we are.

Our pets become such a huge part of our lives, and that bond can be difficult to put into words until we find ourselves without them.

If you’re missing a much-loved companion today, please know that you’re not alone. Pet loss can be incredibly painful, and there is support available.

Remembering beautiful Marnie today as I share this lovely review. Thank you to Sarah for sharing such kind words about Marnie’s final goodbye at home.

I’m so sorry that the time came to make such a heartbreaking decision for your beautiful girl. It was a privilege to be there for you and to help make Marnie’s final moments calm and peaceful in the place where she felt safest.

Thank you too for sharing the beautiful photo of Marnie. She was clearly very loved, and I hope all memories you have of her still bring some comfort.

Sometimes, it feels like it’s meant to be. Thinking of the pets and families I’ve helped over the past few weeks, there have been those quiet moments where, despite the sadness, there’s been a calm understanding that this is their time.

An older pet who has been bravely carrying on for a while, living on borrowed time since a chronic diagnosis. Kept comfortable for as long as possible, until eventually we reach the point where we can no longer keep them comfortable and the kindest decision is to let them go.
And sometimes it’s a more acute illness, such as a cancer diagnosis, where there simply aren’t any viable alternatives and you know that saying goodbye is the right thing to do.

It doesn’t make it any less heartbreaking. But there can be comfort in knowing that their time has come, and that they can pass peacefully, surrounded by the people, smells and familiar comforts of home, with no more suffering.

I’ve found myself reflecting on that feeling in my own life too. Creating Rainbow Bridge Vets feels like one of those things that was simply meant to be. I’m incredibly grateful that I found my way here, and that I’ve been able to help so many pets and families through such an important moment.

And there are some exciting changes ahead for Rainbow Bridge Vets. Changes made with the same aim at heart: to be there for more pets and families when they need us.

There’ll be more to share very soon, but for now I’m quietly excited about what’s ahead, and what it will mean for the families I’m able to help.

Thinking of every pet and family I’ve helped in recent weeks, and feeling very grateful for each and every one. ❤️ 🐾

If you've had the privilege of loving a pet and having them love you, then you'll get this.

There's something special that comes from having a soul companion in your life. To have them unquestionably by your side, to share adventures with, and to bring you comfort and joy.

My lurcher boy, Alphie, is just that, and I can't imagine my life without him💙

Thank you to Milly’s family for allowing me to share these beautiful words and for sending me such a lovely card 🙏. It means so much to know that I was able to help make such a difficult time a little gentler for you all.

Milly was clearly very loved, and these photographs of her with her doggy friends are such a beautiful reminder of the life she shared with those around her.

I know how deeply the loss of a much-loved pet is felt, and I’m thinking of you all as you continue to miss your special girl. Remembering Milly today ❤️

A couple of weeks have passed since I returned to helping families at Rainbow Bridge Vets, and I want to say how grateful I am for each and every family who has found me.

We’re now back in the gentle routine of pre-school, school and working life, and we’re all doing well as we find our way back into the ways of everyday life.

It is different without Koru dog, who we lost in January, and her name is still frequently mentioned in our house. I don’t think you ever truly get over the loss of a family member, but you do learn to live with the new normal.

I’ve been thinking about all the lovely pets and their families I’ve helped over the past couple of weeks. And it’s reminded me that we never forget the pets we’ve loved and lost. If saying their name still feels painful, in time it can also bring comfort and joy to remember them, and all that they gave us.

Welcome back to Rainbow Bridge Vets 🐾🌈🏡
I’m back after a beautiful summer break, my bucket refilled and my heart full. I’m feeling refreshed and ready to be here again to support families and their pets with a calm and peaceful goodbye at home.

If you’re nearing the time to say goodbye to your beloved dog or cat, did you know you can choose to say goodbye at home?

Rainbow Bridge Vets offers home visits across Exeter, East Devon and Torbay for families who would prefer to say goodbye in the comfort and calm of their own home.

Your usual vet practice may be able to offer a home visit, but if they can’t, I’m here to help. I’m a local vet with over 18 years’ experience, based in Woodbury, and I exclusively offer home visits to help make saying goodbye as calm and peaceful as possible.

I take care of everything, so you can concentrate on what matters most, your beautiful companion.

Appointments are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with availability and booking online at www.rainbowbridgevets.co.uk.

If you’d like an individual cremation for your pet, with their ashes returned to you afterwards, I can also arrange their aftercare with another local, family-run business, Culm Valley Pet Cremations. Diana and Steve offer a personal service that aligns closely with my own values, and your pet stays in their bed and blankets throughout, something quite unique in the South West, and something I would want for my own pets.

Out of Office for a Summer Break 🙏
It’s time for me to step away for a little while and spend some much-needed time with my own little family before the next chapter begins. Year 1 and pre-school for my little people.

I’ll be away from work from now until Tuesday 8th September. During this time, please contact your usual vet practice for any support, as I won’t be available and my answer service will not be able to take messages.

I’m so grateful to the families who have reached out this week, and to those I’ve had the privilege to support this year. Thank you to all of you for your kind words, your trust, the heartfelt reviews, and all the recommendations.

I also want to thank Diana and Steve at Culm Valley Pet Cremation Ltd for their ongoing support; they are still available through the summer for your pet's personalised aftercare.
