🐾 PART-TIME DOGGY DAY SCHOOL ASSISTANT WANTED 🐾

We’re looking for an experienced, confident and reliable person to join our team at For the Love of the Dogs, Enniskillen.

🕗 Approx. 15 hours per week
📅 Likely Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday
⏰ 8am–1pm

You must have hands-on experience working with dogs of different breeds, sizes and temperaments, be confident handling larger dogs and be capable of working independently and using your own initiative.

This is a physical, hands-on role involving supervising dogs, enrichment, feeding and cleaning.

Experience is essential. Qualifications in animal care, training or behaviour are an advantage, as full training will be given.

Studies on dogs, primates, and rodents show that even mild hyperthermia affects the prefrontal cortex — the part of the brain responsible for impulse control, decision‑making, and behavioural inhibition.

When body temperature rises by 1–2°C, the brain:

🔘becomes more reactive to movement

Working with adolescent dogs is always a challenge for owners, they are erratic, testing boundaries, selective hearing, all due to the hormonal changes.

Adolescence can be one of the most challenging stages of owning a Doberman. Between around 6 and 24 months, many owners find that their previously well-behaved puppy suddenly becomes impulsive, excitable, easily distracted or even reactive. This isn't because they're being stubborn or dominant—it's because their brain is still developing, and they're learning how to cope with an increasingly exciting world.

Using kind, evidence-based training, we work together to develop reliable manners, improve focus, strengthen relationships and help your adolescent Doberman grow into the well-balanced adult you know they can become.
