🎆 🐾 Bonfire Night is coming… how will your pet cope?

Fireworks can be stressful for dogs, cats and small pets, and with Bonfire Night getting closer, now is the time to start preparing.

💭 Ask yourself… how did your pet cope with fireworks last time?

Did they hide, tremble, pace, pant or struggle to settle? Perhaps they became unusually clingy or went off their food? Signs of firework anxiety aren't always obvious, so it's important to recognise when your pet might be feeling worried.

🏡 Start preparing a safe space now. Somewhere calm, comfortable and familiar that your pet can retreat to when things get noisy. Getting this ready ahead of time can help them feel more secure.

🐾 If your pet struggled with fireworks last year, don't wait until the first bang. Speak to your local Goddard Vet Group practice in advance. Our veterinary teams can discuss your pet's individual needs and help you plan ahead.

💙 A little preparation now can make a big difference when Bonfire Night arrives.

Every cat deserves their own castle! 🏰🐱💙

Milo spent the day with us for his castration and microchip, and it didn’t take him long to make himself at home in his very own little cat castle.

We think it definitely received Milo’s seal of approval! 😻🐾

What a lovely little group! 😻🐾

Mo, Jenny, Penny, Rosie and Betty came in for their very first vet visit and to have their microchips implanted, with plenty of help and cuddles from our nursing team along the way. 💕

They were all incredibly brave and handled everything like little superstars. We’ll look forward to welcoming them back when they’re a little bigger for their neutering procedures. ✨

See you again soon, little ones! 💙

Nothing better than a cuddle and a few air biscuits! 🐱💕🐾 Safe to say someone was feeling very happy and relaxed during their visit 😻

Meet little Mincir, a 3-month-old kitten with a very big personality 😻✨

He came in to see us for his very first vaccinations today and was incredibly brave throughout. We can't wait to welcome him back in a few weeks for his final dose and see what mischief he's been getting up to! 🐾💛

Grass seeds may look harmless, but their barbed shape means they can travel in one direction only - into your dog’s skin, ears, eyes, paws or nose. Take a minute after every walk to check your dog over, especially during the summer months ☀️

If you notice excessive licking, head shaking, sneezing or a painful eye, contact your vet promptly 📞

☀️🐶 Heatwave incoming! Before walking your dog this weekend, try the five-second pavement test 🖐️

If you can comfortably hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds 👍, it should be safe for your dog’s paws. If not, it’s too hot! 🔥🐾

Remember to walk early morning or later in the evening, bring water, and keep your pets cool 💙

☀️🐶 Is it too hot to walk your dog?

As temperatures rise this weekend, it’s important to know when a walk could become dangerous for your pet. Heatstroke can happen quickly — especially in puppies, older dogs, flat-faced breeds, larger dogs, and overweight pets.

Swipe through our guide to see what temperatures are considered safe, when to take extra care, and when it’s best to avoid walks altogether. 🌡️➡️

💧 Top tips for hot weather:
• Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
• Always carry fresh water
• Stick to shaded routes where possible
• Avoid hot pavements — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws
• Never leave your dog in a parked car

If you notice excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse, contact your vet immediately.

Stay safe and keep those tails wagging this summer 💙

Starlight is just over 5 months old and popped in to see our nurses for his flea and worming treatment, as well as a nail clip 🐾✨

We love his little bow tie collar — very smart! 😊🎀

He’s booked in for his castration in the next few weeks, so we’re looking forward to seeing him again for more cuddles and fuss 💙🐶
