I know I posted a photo update of Alan (Carr) yesterday, but here’s the video ❤️ These beautiful little creatures have such a strong will to survive, they are amazing 🙌

Do you remember the pigeon who came in on 7th Feb after being bit by a car?

Look at him now! His wounds were so deep you could see his bone on his leg but he’s all healed now, the scab has fallen off and he’s got lovely fresh, healthy skin under it.

His splint was removed last week and his leg is fixed, he will continue with physio for a little while longer but he’s going into the aviary tomorrow!! 🙌

I put Tiny Tim in the aviary for a little bit this afternoon, I watched him for ages and he did so well, considering he’s not interacted with another pigeon for 10 weeks due to his PMV, he got on with everyone really well!

I popped out for a bit and my car broke down on the motorway 😩😩 so I’ve only just managed to get home and get him inside to bed 😭

He definitely didn’t want to leave the aviary though! He seemed to really enjoy it and he’s managing to lift himself off the floor when flapping 🥰🥰

Thank you so much to the team at Cedar Vets especially to James, Katie, and Erin, for taking such fantastic care of Pirate Pete during his surgery. I’m so grateful for the skills and kindness you show to my pigeons every time. 🥰

Pirate Pete is already feeling far too good and clearly didn’t get the memo about resting, as he’s up and hopping about as if nothing ever happened! 😂

Pirate Pete is out of surgery, I’m just about to pick him up! This was his poor little leg last night, his foot was hanging off and he was constantly bleeding. There was nothing I could do to dress or clean it as everything made the bleeding worse 💔

He may now only have one leg but I’m sure he’s much more comfortable!!

Vet Update – Tiny Tim & Pirate Pete 🐦💙

This morning I took two pigeons to the vets: Tiny Tim and Pirate Pete.

As you know, Tiny Tim previously broke his leg and his toes turned black due to necrosis. We were concerned that the necrosis would continue to spread up his leg, but thankfully that hasn’t happened. His toes have now fallen off and he is actually walking on the leg. He does still hold it up at times and it clearly bothers him a little, but he’s managing.

Tiny Tim was originally booked in today for a leg amputation, but before going ahead, I really wanted the vet to assess him to see if there was any chance we could save his leg. Two legs are always better than one, especially for a pigeon who has had PMV, is still a bit unbalanced and can’t fly.

After reviewing him, the vet feels that Tiny Tim’s leg can stay for now 🎉
We’ll continue to monitor it and if it becomes very painful or causes issues in the future, we’ll reassess and amputate then if needed.

I did a fundraiser for Tiny Tim’s amputation and you guys have been very generous to cover the surgery costs and I really hope people don’t mind, but we had an emergency admission this week, this is Pirate Pete.

Pirate Pete’s foot was so badly damaged that it was essentially falling off and bleeding constantly. He was at serious risk of losing too much blood and not surviving and the injury would have been extremely painful. Because of this, I couldn’t delay surgery and needed to get him into the vets urgently for an amputation.

So Pirate Pete has taken Tiny Tim’s surgery slot today and in a way it’s worked out perfectly. Pirate Pete is now undergoing a leg amputation.

He has already lost quite a bit of blood and amputations are always risky so, while we’re hopeful, there is always a risk.

Please keep Pirate Pete in your thoughts today 🤞💙

I’ll update you all later once I know how the surgery has gone.

Thank you, as always, for your support. You guys are what make it possible for me to continue saving pigeons 🐦

Thank you Lulu and Joseph for spotting and catching Pirate Pete 🥰

Two pigeons off for a vet visit this morning.

Pirate Pete who I’m yet to introduce to the page! I will share his story later. 🥺

And a grumpy Tiny Tim! 🤍

One chunky wood pigeon with Canker released and replaced with another wood pigeon with canker, just not so chunky! 🤣

This one isn’t too bad though, he came from Downland vets today, he has a minor wound on his wing, he’s a little wobbly and can’t fly. He’s got a mild case of canker and is a little underweight. We have started a short course of antibiotics as the wound could possibly have come from a cat.

He’s absolutely demolishing his seed and enjoying his water so he’s clearly been hungry.
