We had a lovely day at WELKS Champ Show yesterday where our Queen, Ida won Best Veteran Bitch under Breed Specialist Judge Ashley Halliday.

It's still a bit surreal standing in a show ring with her, when this time last year I'd have laughed at anyone suggesting she would ever have entertained the idea, but she's taken to it like a duck to water. Now here we are qualified for her second Crufts and WOTY 2026 and it doesn't seem real but she's absolutely loving it πŸ€—.

Sampson (red vest) completed his second clearing trial with UK Sighthound Sport yesterday, which he clearly thoroughly enjoyed. Also, pretty cool to get to run with retired Champion Demi, Shiny Sensations For Your Eyes Only At Dapperdiva, coming back to show the youngsters how it is done πŸ˜ŽπŸ€—

Trying to get the others to play Hide & Seek with Margot is a work in progress.... but she remains undeterred πŸ₯°

It was a very special Crufts for us in so many ways but mainly to have our entire Stormida whippet family on the green carpet in the same year - Ida and her three kids all did us proud with everyone getting shortlisted in their classes and Margot getting the Reserve in Post Graduate Bitch! πŸ’šπŸ’™

Thank you to judges Leigh Morris and Jackie for thinking so highly of our dogs and creating such a lovely atmosphere in both rings. It was a pleasure to be part of and see so many memories made. I hope you both enjoyed your days.

Having Liam and brother Mark both making their Crufts debuts made the day extra special as well as having Ron & Mi there as usual - they never miss the furry grandkids at Crufts πŸ˜†.

But my favourite part was seeing all the gorgeous whippets (over 400 this year) and seeing so many friends in the cards. I don't think I ever hugged so many congratulations - it was brilliant! πŸ€— We really are lucky to have so many great dogs!
Too many to mention but seeing excellent wins for Serena and Lisa, who have both lost their whippet best friends in the last year, was particularly poignant. I know Carol and Debbie were both looking down as pleased as punch πŸ’—.

On a lighter note, my best random Crufts moment came when I manifested a photographer! Stood chatting to Charlotte Luther who took an accessory out of her hair, shook her tumbling tresses and just as I was about to say "my God, you've got gorgeous hair Charlotte" a photographer appeared from nowhere, said he was from Vogue and could he photograph her hair from the back!! We stood pretending to chat naturally while he did his thing behind us... it was only as he walked away that we realised that he could have just been a perv wanting pics of her bum 🀭. Happy days πŸ˜†

Back yesterday for the afternoon shift on Discover Dogs, caught the Group finals in the main arena and finally home exhausted and happy. Now just a week at Cheltenham to survive! πŸ€ͺ

Links to some great background information on whippets lower down in the post, as well as great advice on adopting rescue whippets.

Adoption Update - Please Read Before Applying

2026 has begun at a very busy pace, with many Whippets needing our help and a high number of adoption enquiries. Since 1st January alone, we have received over 200 adoption applications, which is wonderful and greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, not all applicants are suited to the specific needs of the dogs currently waiting for homes.

Many rescue Whippets arrive with challenges such as separation anxiety, severe reactivity, medical needs, or requirements for particular home environments. Some need quieter households, some cannot live with children or other pets, and others simply need experienced, patient owners who can help them adjust and thrive.

We have approved homes waiting and we have Whippets looking for homes, but we will only match dogs where the fit is right. Responsible rehoming is at the heart of what we do, and our thorough checks and careful matching process ensure every dog is placed where they have the best chance of success. We provide lifetime support, including guidance and training assistance where behavioural work is needed, but adopters must be committed to putting in the necessary time and effort.

All rescue animals come with a history, and if you are hoping for an instant β€œperfect” dog, rescue may not be the right route. However, for those willing to be patient and understanding, helping a rescue dog grow in confidence and flourish is one of the most rewarding experiences there is.

We currently have a long waiting list of people hoping to adopt older, calmer, β€œready-made” Whippets. While these dogs do occasionally become available, they are rare, so applicants seeking this type of match should be prepared for a wait. We also have far more applications for girls rather than boys, which is such a shame because the boys can be so incredibly loving and are just as deserving of a forever home.

At present, we especially need adopters who are open to supporting dogs with behavioural or confidence needs. We have Whippets of all ages, from puppies to seniors, waiting for understanding homes.

Rescue dogs need time, patience, and reassurance. They need to feel safe in their new environment and build trust and a bond with their people. It’s important to understand that most rescue dogs won’t be ready for busy outings, cafΓ©s, or pub trips straight away. They need routine, consistency, guidance, and love so that, in time, they can build confidence and enjoy these experiences if and when they feel comfortable.

Rescue is so rewarding, but please be prepared to help them thrive.

If you feel you could offer the right home to a rescue Whippet, please complete our application form:
