Are you and your pets prepared for bonfire night? Calming diffusers can help, available at pet shops, vets and online.
Close your curtains and use TV or gentle music to dull out the scary noises. Try to stay calm yourself and gently talk to your pets to reassure them.
Walk dogs early before the fireworks start if possible. Be prepared for dogs to try to bolt in the event of loud bangs. Is their collar secure or can they slip out of it? Keep a tight hold of the lead - do not drop it. Are their tags/microchip details up-to-date? Indoors, provide a safe quiet space if a dog feels the need to hide, with familiar blankets and soothers, and calming diffusers.
Keep small animals safe inside. Will your cat tolerate being kept indoors with a litter tray instead of going out for the night? You may find they dont - more stress can be caused by forcing the issue so if its not for them, ensure they have easy access back indoors.
Here's to a safe bonfire night!
