🎄 One project, two lasers, one machine! 🤯

I’ve been making some personalised Christmas decorations using the xTool X1…..yes before anyone comes at me I know we are still in October….but anyway…I thought I’d show you a wee video of what I’ve been up to!
Now, the interesting thing about this project is that I’m actually using two different lasers to make these decorations, but they’re both in the same machine!….cool right?
I’m using the 20W diode laser to engrave the names and designs onto the basswood, then the 55W CO₂ laser takes over to cut out the shapes.
If you watch the video, you’ll see the machine switching between the two. This is called Laser Swap, and it means I can do both parts of the job without having to move everything over to another machine, keeping the whole process moving along nicely.
There’s also something called Hybrid Motion, which sounds rather technical 😂 but basically, it combines a galvo system, which uses mirrors to move the laser beam really quickly, with a moving gantry that allows it to cover a larger area. The idea is to help speed up the engraving process.
As for designing everything, I’m using xTool Studio. I can prepare my designs, position them on the wood and set up both the engraving and cutting, all in the one programme.
The X1 also has an automatic setup feature that can take a picture of the material, measure it and help with positioning, so there’s less measuring and setting up to do manually.
Anyway, enough of me trying to explain all the technical stuff! 😂
