Everyone asks what our goals are with our German Shepherd programme, so hereâs a little insightâŚ
For us, itâs never been about breeding dogs for one specific purpose. We want to produce well-rounded German Shepherds that can genuinely do it all.
Dogs with the ability and drive to work, whether thatâs in sport, personal protection or another working role, but that can also come home, switch off and be part of the family. We think a good dog should be capable of working hard when asked, but equally happy having a few days (or even a week!) off without climbing the walls.
Health will always come first. We want to give every puppy the best chance possible by breeding from dogs with excellent health results and sound joints, so theyâre physically able to do the job theyâre bred for. We know accidents can happen, but good genetics and careful breeding give them the strongest foundation.
Although weâre not breeding for the show ring, correct structure and movement still matter to us. A dog doesnât have to be a show champion to be built correctly. Sound conformation helps them move efficiently, stay comfortable and do the work they were bred to do for years to come.
One thing we get asked a lot is about coat length. Our foundation girl is long coated, but that doesnât mean weâll only be producing long coats. Weâll happily use both stock and long coats, as long as theyâre correct for our programme. Coat length isnât what makes a great German Shepherd, health, temperament, structure and working ability do.
At the end of the day, weâre simply trying to produce honest, capable dogs that stay true to what this incredible breed was always meant to be.
