A massive thank you to Zach aged 10 who so far has raised £1190 from doing a fundraising penalty shootout dressed in an inflatable Dachshund costume. Zach is the son of one of Dachshund Rescues Veterinary Physiotherapist. When she asked him what made him want to fundraise, he said I see all the videos of the Dachshunds with IVDD that you are trying to help and I know the rescue really need a ward for the Dachshunds after surgery so I wanted to help raise money for it.

Zach got his whole community involved, whilst he was being sponsored to save goals he arranged many fun activities to be going on at the same time to bring extra donations in.

Zach contacted his guitar teacher and asked if one of the student bands could play at the event, the amazing Blindside stepped up and performed all evening. Such wonderful confidence was seen from these boys playing for a large group of people at only aged 13- A big well done.

Zach plucked up his courage and asked local businesses if they wanted to donate prizes for the raffle, tombola and games. The local businesses of Holmfirth where amazing and generous, the community sprit was overwhelming.

Zach Is a member of Scholes Cricket club and they let him use the space free of charge. Holmfirth football club where he plays weekly lent him the massive goal.

The silly sausage emporium came and brought their amazing dog snoods and snuggle blankets and generously donated one. Holmfirth Pet store donated an amazing doggy goodie back, Zach said he had to hide it from his Dachshund before the event because she could smell the treats.

The evening was a huge success thanks to everyone involved. But Zach hasn’t stopped there, on the 19th September he will be walking 10K in his Dachshund Costume around all the local villages near him – Hade edge, Cartworth, Holmfirth, Woodale, Scholes and Hepworth. So, if you live near by come and give him a wave. If not but you want to support him in raising money so Dachshund Rescue can build their residential rehabilitation wing, then you can find his go fund me page at https://gofund.me/c729adbb2 .

If you would like to do a fundraiser like Zach, contact us on [email protected] and we will send you out an information pack.

At The Elms K9 Rehabilitation Centre we provide physiotherapy and hydrotherapy for dogs following recovery of IVDD. Some of these are post-surgery others may be conservatively managed. Through our work, we have identified an urgent need for short-term residential rehabilitation. Some owners cannot safely provide the intensive care their dog requires immediately after surgery or during the early stages of conservative treatment. This may be because the owner is elderly or disabled, has limited mobility, lacks suitable support at home, or has work commitments that make continuous care impossible. For example, a dog that would ordinarily attend daycare may no longer be eligible to do so while recovering, leaving its owner without an appropriate care option.
The Elms K9 Rehab has an adjacent outbuilding that we propose to convert into a small, dedicated residential rehabilitation wing. This would allow us to take in Rescue Dachshunds post IVDD surgery when we do not have fosterers available and it would allow us to offer this facility to owners at a charge which would then put money back into the charity to help other dogs.
