June is National Microchipping Month, a campaign designed to promote pet safety and ensure owners register their animals details on a national database. It serves as a vital reminder to get your pets chipped and keep contact details current, which is also a legal requirement.
We fought hard to get the law introduced, and we are still fighting to see it replicated across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland because cats and their owners matter. Microchips DO work 😸

* Mandatory Microchipping: By UK law, all owned cats over 20 weeks old in England must be microchipped. Owners face a fine if their cat is not registered.

* Reuniting Lost Cats: A microchip acts as your cat's voice when they get lost. If your cat is found injured, vets are only legally required to provide pain relief. A scanned chip is the only way rescuers or councils can instantly identify you and contact you in an emergency.

*Details Must Be Current: Microchips are only effective if your details (phone number, home and email address) are kept up-to-date on the database. We fought hard for the inclusion of registering and keeping details up to date in the legislation, otherwise the chips are rendered useless.
