Thanks to Daniella, Kaitlyn, and Violet, this poor bunny—whom we named Harley—is finally safe. ❤️
For the first time in his life, Harley is living in an air-conditioned home, with unlimited fresh hay, nutritious food, clean water, and, most importantly, love.
And despite everything he has been through, he is one of the SWEETEST bunnies we have at the rescue.
What truly upsets me is knowing that Harley spent his entire life confined to that cage, exposed to the brutal Florida heat and humidity. If you look closely at the photos, you can see that the plastic bottom of the cage is warped and corrugated from the extreme temperatures. Just imagine how hot it must have gotten inside that cage. Can you imagine what this poor boy endured day after day?
We often hear people say, “My bunny’s cage is in the shade.” But shade alone does not guarantee a safe or comfortable environment. A shaded cage can still become unbearably hot, especially during Florida summers.
Ask yourself one simple question: Would I be willing to live in that cage?
The answer is obviously no.
So why would we expect a rabbit to?
Rabbits are highly susceptible to heat stress and heatstroke, which can quickly become fatal. They are not outdoor animals meant to withstand extreme temperatures. They depend on us to provide them with a safe, comfortable environment.
Harley survived, but many rabbits are not as fortunate.
Please, if you love your rabbit, bring them inside. Give them the comfort, safety, and companionship they deserve. They are family members, not lawn ornaments.
We promised Harley that he will never have to suffer through another day like that again. From now on, he will only know kindness, comfort, and love. ❤️
