Hi everyone! 👋

Leah here, a local qualified and insured dog trainer and the owner of Hecate Training Academy 🐾

I’ve spent years working with dogs through some of the UK’s biggest dog charities and my approach is kind, reward-based and welfare-focused. My classes are designed to be supportive and judgement-free for both ends of the lead!

🐶 My next Puppy Training Course starts September 6th!

The course runs for 4 weeks and covers all those important foundations for raising a happy, confident puppy, including:
• Recall
• Loose lead walking
• Focus & engagement
• Settling and calmness
• Appropriate socialisation
• Handling & cooperative care
• Everyday life skills

You’ll also receive a puppy goody bag, handouts and access to my online learning hub to help you continue training at home 🥰

If you’ve recently welcomed a puppy into the family, or you’re bringing one home soon and would like to know more, feel free to drop me a message. I’m always happy to have a chat and answer any questions before you book. 💚

Today is all about celebrating the dogs who make our lives that little bit brighter. From the perfectly behaved to the wonderfully chaotic, the puppies, seniors, rescues, working dogs and beloved companions, today we celebrate them all! 🥰🐾

Here’s to the muddy paws, wagging tails, endless cuddles and unconditional friendship they bring into our lives 💚🐶

Share a photo of your dog in the comments so we can celebrate them too! 👇👇👇

Sunday Skill: Teach your dog something new!

Learning doesn’t always have to be about fixing a problem or perfecting obedience. Sometimes, it can just be fun 🤩

Teaching your dog a new skill is a brilliant way to spend time together, build confidence and strengthen your relationship. Whether it’s something useful, something clever,m or something completely silly, every little success is a chance to celebrate together!

Keep sessions short, keep the pressure low and remember that there’s no rush. Some dogs pick things up quickly, others need a little more time and that’s all part of learning.

So this Sunday, grab some treats, pick a new skill and have a go! 💚

As the fires continue to spread across Wales, our thoughts are with the wildlife caught in their path. At Kruger Veterinary Group, we want to do what we can to help.

If you find wildlife that has been injured, burned or otherwise harmed as a result of the fires, please contact us. As a veterinary practice experienced in exotic and wildlife medicine, with access to darting facilities where required, we are offering our veterinary services to affected wildlife in South Wales.

We know we won’t be able to save every animal that reaches us, but every life is worth trying for. We promise that each animal brought to us will be treated with compassion and that we will do everything reasonably possible to give them a chance.

There is no charge to members of the public bringing injured wildlife to us for treatment. Our priority is simply to help.

If you come across an injured wild animal, please don’t put yourself at risk. Contact us and we can advise you on the safest way to help.

🚩 RED FLAGS WHEN CHOOSING A DOG TRAINER 🚩

Not all dog trainers are equal so before trusting someone with your dog, do your homework. 🐾

Check their photos & videos. Don’t just look at what the dogs are doing, look at how they feel doing it!

Look for comfortable body language:
🐾 Loose, relaxed bodies
🐾 Soft eyes and faces
🐾 Relaxed ears and tails
🐾 Willing engagement with the trainer
🐾 Comfortable taking treats
🐾 Freedom to sniff, move and disengage
🐾 Dogs that look confident and comfortable, not tense, shut down or worried

🎓 Check qualifications & experience. Ask what education they have and whether they continue to develop their knowledge.

🛡️ Check they’re appropriately insured.

❓ Ask about their methods. A good trainer should happily explain what they’re doing, why they’re doing it and how it benefits your dog. Ask if they suggest any equipment and if they mention anything that causes harm/fear or pain, biiiig red flag!

🚩 Be wary of guaranteed results, “quick fixes”, trainers who dismiss your concerns, or anyone who claims they can work with absolutely everything.

A BIG green flag? Knowing when to refer! 💚

A good trainer will signpost you to another trainer, behaviour professional or veterinary support if they believe they’re better suited to your needs rather than taking you on as a client and ultimately failing you and your dog.

And if you’re struggling to find the right trainer in your area, or someone offering the specific skills you’re looking for, you can always reach out to me.

I’ll happily offer honest support and signpost you where I can. ❤️

The right trainer isn’t just about results, it’s about how your dog feels getting there. 🐾

A little thank you 🤍

I just wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you to all of my wonderful clients for your patience, kindness and understanding while I’ve taken some time away to focus on my own wellbeing.

Sometimes we all need to give ourselves permission to slow down, reset and take care of ourselves, and I’m incredibly grateful to have such supportive and understanding people around me who have allowed me the space to do that.

I’m also so grateful that I get to work alongside some truly lovely people who have offered me so much support, patience and understanding during this time. It really has meant more to me than you know. 🤍

I’m slowly getting around to getting back to work and I’m really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things, doing what I love and, most importantly, being there to support people and their pups again. 🐾

Thank you for sticking with me, for giving me the time and space I’ve needed and for all the kindness you’ve shown me along the way 🥰

I’m looking forward to seeing you and your lovely pups again soon 🤍🐾
