Want better engagement from your dog around distractions? 👀
Here are 4 things I’d focus on:
1️⃣ Teach a start cue - give your dog a clear signal that it’s time to engage with you.
2️⃣ Make sure they can follow a lure - if your dog can’t comfortably follow your hand, it’s much harder to use movement to your advantage.
3️⃣ Use lots of movement - be interesting! Change direction, move away, play, encourage your dog to choose you.
4️⃣ Keep sessions short & sweet - finish while your dog is still engaged and wanting more. Quality > quantity.
Engagement isn’t something we should expect our dogs to magically have around distractions. It’s something we build, practise and proof. 🐾
