Starting another busy week of walks, visits, feeds, medication, cuddles… and negotiating with cats who have very strong opinions about how their visits should be conducted. 😂

One of the things I love about pet care is that no two visits are quite the same. Some pets are waiting at the door ready for an adventure, some want to play, some just want a little company, and some would prefer I simply put the food down and stop interfering with their important cat business.

Whatever their style, visits are always adapted to the individual animal, their routine and what they need that day.

I have some availability coming up in September, so if you’re looking for local pet care in Cottenham and surrounding villages, feel free to send me a message.

It’s a hot one today! ☀️

Keep yourselves and your pets cool, comfortable and safe.

Plenty of fresh water, shade, cool places to rest, and save the walks for when it’s cooler.

Sometimes the best thing we can do for our dogs on a hot day is simply let them do very little.

Stay cool out there!

There’s more going on here than two cats being ridiculously cute. 🐈‍⬛🐈

Mutual grooming between cats — known as allogrooming — can be part of the social relationship between cats who are comfortable with one another.

And I love watching the little relationships animals build.

Who sleeps beside whom. Who seeks the other out. Who plays with whom. Who wants company, and who would really rather everyone leave them alone today. 😅

Those relationships matter when we care for animals too.

Good pet care isn’t just knowing that there are two cats in the house and they each need feeding.

It’s getting to know them, their personalities, routines, preferences and relationships, and letting that shape how you care for them.

Although in BB and Nyx’s case, today’s important observation is mostly:

They’re adorable. 😂

When the temperatures rise, we simply change the plan.

Tomorrow is forecast to be over 30°C, so instead of long daytime walks, I’ll be offering early morning walks while it’s still cool, and using enrichment games in the garden or at home where appropriate.

Dogs don’t always need more exercise.

Sometimes they need opportunities to sniff, explore, problem-solve and use their incredible noses.

A handful of treats hidden around the garden can become a fun “sniffari”, keeping them mentally engaged without asking them to exercise in the hottest part of the day.

Flo was completely absorbed… all I managed to film was her enthusiastic wagging tail disappearing into the bushes! 😂🐾

On hot days, my priority is always the dogs’ welfare:
💧 Early morning walks where possible
🌿 Garden enrichment and sniffing games
💦 Fresh water and plenty of shade
🐶 Letting each dog set the pace

How does your dog like to stay entertained when it’s too hot for a long walk?

One of my favourite parts of this job is getting to know every pet as an individual.

Some want to play from the moment I arrive.

Some prefer a quiet fuss before heading back to their favourite sunny spot.

Some need a shorter, gentler visit on warmer days, while others can’t wait to explore.

No two visits are ever the same, and that’s exactly how it should be. 🐾

For many of us, our pets are family.

So it’s no surprise that more and more couples are choosing to include their dog in one of the biggest days of their lives.

But weddings can be busy, noisy and overwhelming, for both people and pets.

That’s where a Wedding Pet Companion comes in.

From collecting your dog before the ceremony, to keeping them comfortable, helping with photographs, making sure they have water, toilet breaks and plenty of reassurance, the aim is simple: allowing you to enjoy your day while knowing your best friend is being looked after.

It’s a service I’m excited to be introducing through SevenTails, and I’ll be sharing more about it over the coming weeks.

Would your dog have been part of your wedding if you’d known a service like this existed? 🐾💍

One of my favourite things about looking after cats is that every one of them has their own way of saying hello.

Some are waiting at the door before I’ve even taken my shoes off.

Some appear only when they hear the food cupboard open.

Some decide we’re best friends by the second visit, while others prefer to admire me from across the room for a few days.

There’s something rather special about earning the trust of an animal at their own pace.

It’s one of the quiet joys of this job. 🐾

Planning a summer holiday?

While many people think of dog walkers and kennels, lots of pets are happiest staying right where they are, at home.

Over the summer I’ll be caring for cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and other small animals across Cottenham and the surrounding villages, helping them stay comfortable in their familiar surroundings while their humans are away.

Every pet is different. Some want fuss and playtime. Some prefer a quiet check-in, fresh food and a little company from a respectful distance.

Whatever their personality, my aim is always the same: calm, reliable care that fits their routine.

If you’re still organising summer plans and need holiday pet care, feel free to get in touch.
