What a weekend we’ve had! Team Scent Quest hosted the Scent Detection section at the ProDog Beach Fest and held taster sessions for almost 70 dogs!! It was great meeting pups of all different breeds, sizes, and ages, and showing their owners what great sniffers they are.

We also previewed for the first time ever the brand new Scentwork Badge Club books and badges 👀

During the day we held demo sessions where the amazing Gemma and Otis showed off their skills and we were able to answer lots of interesting questions from the audience.

It was a crazy busy good time, and I’m eternally grateful to the Scent Quest team of Elly, Dee, Bob, Alex, Anita, and Sue who kept me supported, hydrated, fed, and just generally alive!

Well done to everyone who came along to take part 😊

We've been at a charity warehouse in Clevedon this morning where we held a Pre-Entry trial for The National Nosework Association before the heat set in. The sky was kind to us, with it staying relatively cloudy for our outside searches. The big challenge for handlers today wasn't the weather though, but apparently a bit of competition nerves! 🫣 Thankfully after a rocky start with the vehicle searches, everyone settled into the flow and remembered to trust their training and their dogs. All teams had much improved exterior searches, and were smashing it by the time they did their interior searches 🔥 Pleased to say they all earned their Selection Test badges too 😄

🏆 Our reserve team was Anita with Prue and our winner was Elly with Otis.

Well done!

We had a lovely Sunday morning running a Foundation Level trial for The National Nosework Association over at Yatton Rugby Club. Ten teams competed, with this being the first NNA trial for five of them. I was really pleased with how all the teams worked and it was so nice seeing everyone’s training paying off.

I gave out one Synergy badge to Amy & Cedar for their beautiful interior search.

Our winner was Alex & Conker, and reserve was Alessia & Florence.

Thank you to Elly for being the TO and keeping everything running smoothly, and of course to Otis who was our white dog testing the search areas.

A great morning with a lovely group of people and dogs 😄🐾

A lovely bit of air scenting from Sky 😊 No trending music or long-winded caption needed. Just enjoy watching how incredibly awesome dogs are and how cool it is to get to visualize odour movement through their problem solving.

Yesterday we ran two trials for the The National Nosework Association at a charity warehouse in Clevedon. We started with a Foundation Level in the morning, with lots of first timers dipping their toes in. All ten teams had lovely results, and two teams, Alice & Luna and Chris & Agnes, have now staged up to the next level.

The winner was Anita & Prue, who also earned a Synergy badge for their beautiful interior search.
The reserve team was Chris & Agnes.

In the afternoon we ran an Entry Level trial for six teams, where we saw a really nice standard of searching in a tricky environment.

The winning team was Beth & Fawkes, who were the only ones to find all the hides in all the elements.
The reserve team was Faye & Pippie, who also earned a Synergy for their great exterior search.
Jan & Onyx as well as Steph & Olive also both have now staged up to Enhanced.

A big thank you to our judge Rosie Reid 😊

Well done everyone!

2nd Marie & Eddie
3rd Alice & Luna
4th Elly & Otis

On Monday we headed over the warehouse in Clevedon where teams were given the challenge of searching the whole warehouse to see how many Easter eggs they could find. The eggs were hidden within 1m of a gun oil hide, so it required dog and handler to truly be a team to find them. Each egg had a slip of paper in it with a secret word, as proof that the team had found that egg. I’ll do another post soon to share those results 🐰🐰

A few updates:

Firstly, it’s lovely to confirm that Scent Quest really is the treasure at the end of the rainbow. Thanks to Carol for the photo ☺️

Secondly, those who have been coming to sessions recently have probably met Elly, who has been shadowing me. I’m really pleased to say that, from next week, Elly will be available to run some sessions on her own on certain Mondays and Thursdays. These are now available to book through the booking system 😁

There will be a temporary pause on “Intro to Scentwork” sessions, although a waitlist is available for anyone who is keen to join. This pause is to make sure we have enough availability for those already training, and also to give me some time to add some exciting new elements to future intro sessions.

In addition, for the first time since starting Scent Quest, I’ll be making a small price increase from April for one-to-one and enrichment sessions. Packages will still be available and will continue to offer a discount compared with booking single sessions. Membership and Scent Club prices will remain the same.

Speaking of Scent Club, we’ll also be introducing new Saturday morning Scent Clubs from mid April. Woohoo!

There are also lots more workshops and competitions (NNA and Nosework Games) on the horizon, as well as, of course, the launch of the Scentwork Badge Club — more information on that coming soon!

Thank you, as always, for all your support. We really do have such a lovely little community of sniffy dogs 🥰🐾

We had a lovely Sunday morning today running a Foundation Level NNA trial at a charity warehouse in Clevedon. Ten teams came to compete and everyone went home with at least one badge. This was the first time competing for a few of the dogs (and handlers!), so a special well done to those teams.

Rosie Reid was our judge and set some great searches for the dogs and even managed to snap a few pics during the interior search, so a big thank you to her!

Our winners were Elly & Otis who also earned a synergy badge and have now staged up to the next level.

Reserve was earned by Chris & Agnes.

Well done everyone!

Super proud of my girl today for coming in Reserve! She worked really hard and did some nice focused searching, especially in the exterior area where there were squirrels teasing her. We missed one tricky hide that we couldn’t quite problem solve in the interior search (which lost us the win 🙈), but I’m so pleased with how we did. The best part was seeing how much Asha really enjoyed it 😊

Thank you to Gail from Worcester Search & Scent Dogs for running the trial, and to Elly for covering my afternoon sessions today so Asha and I could go compete!

We have now qualified for Enhanced, but we’re going to try a few more at the current level to see if we can get our Skills Awards before moving up.
