We’re finally back to walking at our normal times of day!

Everyone’s so happy to be out and about again. As much as we’ve loved the gorgeous weather, we’ve definitely missed our usual walks! Here’s hoping for the perfect balance of sunshine and strolls🐾✨🧡

Growing older doesn’t necessarily mean slowing down—it just means doing things a little differently!

As our dogs get older, their needs change—and at Lucy’s Leads, we adapt the way we care for them to help keep them healthy, happy, and comfortable.

Here are a few simple ways to support your senior dog:

Shorter, more frequent walks🐾
Little and often is best! Gentle, regular exercise helps maintain muscle strength, which can reduce the risk of muscle wastage and support joints affected by arthritis. It also helps prevent your dog from feeling sore or stiff after long, strenuous walks.

Maintain a healthy weight🏋🏼‍♀️
Keeping your senior dog lean can make a huge difference to their mobility and overall comfort. A balanced diet and healthy weight help them cope better with the ageing process.

Supplements 💊
There are lots of supplements available that may help support joint health and reduce inflammation. Every dog is different, so speak to your vet about which supplements may be most suitable to support your furry friend.

Every senior dog deserves to enjoy their golden years in comfort and live life to the fullest!🧡

Another heat wave means another week of no walks🥲

Sadly, we haven’t been able to head out on any walks after 9/10am this week, so it’s been all about garden pop-ins and home visits instead🏡

I still love popping over to make sure your dogs (and Bob the cat🐱) are safe, comfortable, and coping in this extreme heat. Sometimes a quick comfort break, fresh water top-up, and a bit of company are exactly what’s needed. Or, an evening pool party if you are Heccy and Humph.

If you could do with a little extra help looking after your dog during this spell of hot weather, please pop me a message. I’m always happy to help. ☀️🐾🧡

How hot is too hot for your dog? 🐶💛

Here at Lucy’s Leads, your dog’s health and safety will always come first.

Heatstroke is a very serious risk for dogs and can happen much quicker than many people realise. As disappointing as it is, sometimes the safest place for your dog is indoors, keeping cool and out of the sun.

I will not walk dogs when the temperature is above 23°C.

For flat-faced breeds, large breeds, senior dogs, or any dog with additional health concerns, I’ll monitor the conditions even more closely and make the decision that’s safest for your individual dog. Every dog is different, and their wellbeing always comes before sticking to a schedule.

Thank you for understanding that these decisions are made with your dog’s best interests at heart. Keeping them safe is, and always will be, my top priority. 💛

How we’ve been keeping cool during this week’s heatwave! 🐶💛

🐾Skipping midday walks! No dog has ever become ill from missing a walk. Keeping cool in the shade, indoors or in the garden, is super important. Dogs should not be walked in temperatures above 23°C.

🏡Garden pop-ins instead of walks are a great opportunity to practice training, enjoy some fresh air, and learn new tricks!

🌳If we are walking, it’s early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are below 23°C. Choosing shaded routes with access to water is always on our agenda.

❄️ Keeping cool indoors with cooling mats, avoiding lying in direct sunlight, and creating a breeze with a fan helps keep everyone a little more comfortable. And if you’re Milo… sunglasses and a hat are essential!

💧 Always make sure your dog has access to plenty of cool, clean, fresh water.

🍦 Frozen treats are a favourite in our house! Doggy ice cream is always a hit, and frozen lick mats are a fantastic way to help dogs stay cool and entertained.

Keeping cool and staying safe is so important for our furry babies during this extreme weather. Take care of yourselves and your pups, and stay safe everyone! 🐶💛

Happy Monday from this bonkers pair! 🐾

Making sure all dogs are suitably matched for their walks is key to enjoyment and safety for everyone. Group walks provide fantastic opportunities for socialisation, confidence building, mental stimulation, and exercise, while allowing dogs to learn appropriate behaviour from one another in a safe, structured environment.

When the right dogs walk together, everyone has a great time! 👯‍♂️🐶💛

I spent my day VERY soggy.

A full day of rain means 3 different coats, 3 different pairs of trainers and potential trench foot? But we love it!!!!

No matter the weather, being able to take these gorgeous doggies out and about makes me so happy!! 🧡
