Canine Reactive is evolving 🐾

I’ve been working on something behind the scenes over the past few weeks…

And I’m finally ready to tell you a little bit about it.

Canine Reactive is evolving.

While reactive dogs will always be a huge part of what I do, I’ve realised that I really miss working with dogs and owners earlier in their journey too.

Helping puppy owners build good foundations.

Supporting families through the chaos of adolescence.

Helping owners navigate those everyday struggles before they become bigger problems.

And ultimately, helping more dogs and their people to have a really good start together.

Because the more we support our dogs early on, the more chance we have of helping prevent some of those struggles from developing into bigger behaviour problems later in life.

So I’m expanding Canine Reactive to offer a wider range of support for dogs and their people at different stages of their journey together.

I’ve been busy behind the scenes creating a new website and introducing a series of Canine Reactive Journeys — each designed around a different stage or area of support.

🐾 Real Life Journey
🐾 Behaviour Journey

There’s still lots of work to do, but I’m getting close to launching the first version of the new website.

So, if you visit my website right now and think “this looks exactly the same”… you’re not imagining it! 😂

It’s still the old version while I put the finishing touches to everything behind the scenes.

I’m really excited about this next chapter and about being able to support a much wider range of dogs and owners, while continuing to do the behaviour work I love.

And the best bit?
I’m already open to taking on new clients for these new journeys.

🐾 And I’m back! 🐾

Well… my week off went far too quickly! 🙈

After a lovely week of switching off, spending time with the family and generally trying not to think about work 😂, I’m back in the office today.

I’ve got a rather full inbox waiting for me, so if you’ve messaged me while I’ve been away, I promise I haven’t forgotten about you! I’ll be working my way through everything over the next couple of days. 📩

I’m also looking forward to getting back out seeing some familiar faces (and paws 🐶), catching up on how everyone’s getting on and getting stuck back into the dogs.

So, cups of tea at the ready… let’s do this! ☕🐾

Just a quick note to let you know that I'm taking a short break and will be out of the office until Monday 17th August.

During this time, I'll be stepping away from work, so I won't be responding to messages, emails or enquiries. I'll reply to everyone as soon as I can once I'm back from 17th August onwards.

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding while I take a little time to recharge. It means a great deal, and I look forward to catching up with you all when I return.

Every dog trainer and behaviourist this week trying to negotiate the British heatwave... 😅☀️

• Re-schedule 1-2-1 training sessions. ✔️
• Re-schedule stooge dogs. ✔️
• Somehow sync three different diaries together. ✔️
• Become completely obsessed with the weather forecast. ✔️

Honestly, I don't think I've ever opened the Met Office app so many times in my life. Every hour I'm checking to see if there's even the slightest chance of the temperature dropping enough to safely work with dogs.

This week's heatwave has turned my diary into one giant game of Tetris. I feel like my job title has temporarily changed from Dog Trainer & Behaviourist to Professional Organisational Wizard. 🪄📅

The one positive? Being forced indoors has meant I've finally tackled all those admin jobs that I've been putting off. Reports, emails, invoices... all the exciting things that come with running your own business. 🙃

Okay Universe... I get it. You wanted me to get on top of my admin. But turning Britain into a sauna seemed a little excessive. An email reminder would've done the job just fine. 😂

A huge thank you to all of my wonderful clients and my amazing stooge ladies for being so patient, flexible and understanding whilst appointments have been shuffled around. Your support really does mean the world.

Here's hoping next week I can get back to doing what I actually signed up for... training dogs rather than managing spreadsheets and weather forecasts! 🤞🐾

☀️ **Travelling with your dog in extreme heat**

If you can avoid travelling with your dog during very hot weather, please do. If you absolutely have to travel, here are some important tips to help keep them safe:

🚗 **Only travel if it's absolutely necessary.**
For example, if your vet appointment isn't an emergency or for surgery, consider asking if it can be rescheduled.

❄️ **Cool the car before your dog gets in.**
Run the air conditioning for a few minutes first so the car is already cool before they enter.

🛣️ **Keep journeys as short as possible.**
Avoid combining trips or popping to the shops on the way home. Get your dog home to a cool environment as soon as you can.

🚫 **Never leave your dog in the car.**
Even with the windows open, cars heat up incredibly quickly. If you do need to stop, make sure the air conditioning remains running and your dog is supervised.

💧 **Take plenty of cool water.**
Offer small drinks regularly throughout the journey to help keep your dog hydrated.

🌳 **For longer journeys, stop regularly.**
Choose shaded areas for toilet breaks and water stops, keeping time outside the air-conditioned car to a minimum.

🧊 **Frozen enrichment can help.**
Frozen KONGs or lick mats can provide a safe way to help your dog cool down and stay occupied during travel.

❤️ **Remember that stress increases body temperature.**
This is particularly important if you're travelling to the vets, as many dogs find veterinary visits stressful. Give yourself extra time, keep everything as calm as possible, and avoid rushing.

🧺 **Use cooling aids correctly.**
Wet towels, cooling mats and cooling coats can all help. However, cooling coats need to be re-wetted regularly. Once they dry out or become warm, they can actually trap heat rather than cool your dog.

Your dog's safety always comes first. If a journey can wait until temperatures are lower, it's often the best choice. Stay safe and keep those paws cool! 🐾

HOT WEATHER!

All clients. Please check your messages and emails if you have appointments this week. I have moved as many as I can to 8.30am and will potentially have to rearrange training sessions that are booked for later times in the day as temperatures are set to be in the late 20’s and early 30’s.
All sessions will be rearranged as needed.
