Teddie …
I saw my lovely Teddie again after a few weeks off from training due to him not feeling his best.
Teddie 10-year-old is a rescue terrier mix who has been through many homes. He came to his owner with a lot of .. terrier habits!
I really have to spotlight his owner here, she has worked tirelessly to understand Teddie, enrich him effectively and puts countless hours a week into training Teddie the foundations that have led us to where we are now.
Yesterday’s session was so eye opening to the progress Teddie has made. Since I have been seeing him, we’ve worked hard on a solid “Place” cue. This is a great way to give Teddie an alternative behaviour whilst asking him not to do his undesirable behaviours.
A pain point that Teddie has had is that he does not like the hoover and he WILL let you know about it. With Teddie’s place training being solid, his owner has been exposing to the Hoover, whilst it was turned off, for a couple of weeks.
Yesterday we turned it on.. we thought we’d have to work slowly with Teddie in order to keep him on his place but no! He absolutely knew what his job was in this moment, keep his bum on his place mat and nothing bad will happen!
I couldn’t be prouder of his owner for the absolute dedication she has shown throughout Teddie’s training.
Teddie is not an easy boy, and he’ll always have his quirks, but times like this show how patience and time really pays off to teach dogs, even those that aren’t easy on us!
Again, such a big, massive, HUGE well-done to Teddie’s owner for all your progress, I am beaming from ear to ear writing this!
