🐴 CUSHING’S – FREE ACTH TESTING 🐴

Boehringer Ingelheim’s Care About Cushing’s complimentary diagnostic ACTH testing scheme is now open for the autumn period, running from 1 September to 31 October.

If you have a horse over 10 years old showing signs that could be associated with Cushing’s (PPID), or an older horse that may benefit from testing, you may be eligible for a free ACTH blood test.

💙 What do you need to do?

If you think your horse may be suitable, please get in contact with your vet and we can advise whether testing is appropriate and help you with the voucher process.

🗓 The autumn scheme runs until 31 October, so please get in touch before the offer runs out.

🚨 Heatwave Alert: Keeping Horses Safe in Hot Weather 🐴🌡️

With temperatures forecast to rise above 30°C, it's important to take extra precautions to help prevent heat stress in horses.

Here are a few tips to keep them safe:

✅ Ensure constant access to fresh, clean water
✅ Provide shade and adequate ventilation
✅ Adjust exercise routines and cool down properly
✅ Monitor vulnerable horses closely
✅ Encourage water intake with flavourings, soaked feeds +/- electrolytes

🚨 Know the signs of heat stress!!!

These can include excessive sweating, rapid breathing, lethargy, weakness, dehydration, and an elevated temperature.

If your horse seems unwell, struggles to recover after exercise, or isn't responding to cooling measures, seek vet advice promptly 🐴☀️🌡️

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone that has followed, liked and shared our new page so far. The support has been fantastic and is very much appreciated!

For those who are new, my name is Eddy Williams and I have recently joined Focused Equine as an ambulatory vet and partner. Whilst this page is part of Focused Equine, it will mainly be a place for me to share information and updates to my own clients and their horses.

I will also be posting general health advice, seasonal reminders, interesting cases and the occasional glimpse into the life of an ambulatory equine vet.
