Blephs are back!

Not back available just yet, but back in the bug room, three large pairs feeding and growing nicely. These have always been a firm favourite so it'll be great to hopefully hatch some nymphs again soon 😎

These are the females. In the males you'd see a smaller sixth abdominal spike near the tip in the same way that you'd s*x Pseudocreobotra wahlbergii.

A third small breve hatch this morning, seven nymphs today. I've s*xed and kept back a few pairs now so there should be some surplus from next week.

Lots of 4th/5th instar s*xed square shields too, as well as smaller uns*xed 3rd instars if your looking for another cool small/medium species.

Message for the current list

Phyllothelys breve (Asian ghost mantis)
Orthodera burmeisteri (Square shield mantis)

Next up in three Weeks time is the Surrey Invert Show 🦋

This is my first time at one of Clare's Invert Shows and I'm excited to see the trader lineup has now been released.

I'll be next to and working with Fran at The Creature Coven and looking forward to another awesome show!

What a busy day today in Coventry! Thanks to everyone for the fun and laughs and the sweets, brownies and banana bread and also thanks for again clearing my table so there'll be very little to unpack tonight!

Another great show!!!

Who's coming to Coventry this Sunday for the massive Central Invertebrate Show?

This will be our Fifth time at the event and it was actually my first show trading as Rick's Bug Room so it also marks an anniversary 🎉

This year Fran has her own table as The Creature Coven but as always we'll be working together so come and say Hi!

Here is the enormous two hall trader line up plus pictures from our four previous years at the venue 🦗🦋🪳🪲🐛🕷️

Only a few days now until the Amateur Entomologist's Society's annual show 🦋

Fran @ The Creature Coven and I will be in a similar location to previous years but have moved slightly to accommodate extra tables, five between us this year.

This should be a great event and always a nostalgic one for me as I've been attending for forty years 😬

I need a break from Eastern Show prep so here are some photos of a phasmid that I began working with this year. Medauromorpha regina "Tay Yen Tu", the Devil horned stick insect, from Vietnam.

The eggs are one of the longest so far known in cultured phasmids.

I won't have these tomorrow in Gillingham, but will have a selection of other phasmids 🌿
