🌿🐠 FRESH TROPICA DELIVERY HAS LANDED TODAY! 🐠🌿

Another beautiful delivery from Tropica has arrived at Seth’s Little Zoo — and this one has some fantastic plants for anyone looking to take their aquascape to the next level.

🌱 Fresh in today:

• Aponogeton longiplumulosus – a stunning feature plant with long, flowing, crinkled leaves. Brilliant for adding height and movement.

• Aegagropila linnaei – the famous Marimo moss ball! Easy to care for and a great little addition to shrimp and peaceful community tanks.

• Limnobium laevigatum – Amazon Frogbit. A popular floating plant with attractive trailing roots that provide natural cover for fish and shrimp.

• Salvinia minima – another excellent floating plant, ideal for creating shade and a more natural-looking aquarium.

• Riccia fluitans – incredibly versatile. Float it or use it creatively in an aquascape to produce beautiful bright-green growth.

• Phyllanthus fluitans – Red Root Floater. One of our favourites for adding colour and interest across the water surface.

• Najas guadalupensis – fast-growing and fantastic for creating natural cover, particularly for fry and smaller fish.

• Taxiphyllum sp. ‘Flame Moss’ – grows with a distinctive twisting, upright appearance that looks fantastic attached to wood or rock.

• Vesicularia ‘Weeping Moss’ – beautiful hanging growth makes this perfect for creating that mature, overgrown woodland effect on branches and hardscape.

🐢 WHY CHOOSE A REPUTABLE SELLER FOR YOUR HERMANN’S TORTOISE?

When purchasing a Hermann’s tortoise, price shouldn’t be the only consideration. Legality, traceability and correct documentation matter.

Here in Northern Ireland, the rules are not necessarily the same as those applying in Great Britain. This is something every professional seller dealing with protected species should understand.

Our Hermann’s tortoises are supplied with the appropriate CITES documentation, giving our customers confidence in the legal origin and traceability of the animal they are purchasing.

Unfortunately, there appears to be considerable confusion online surrounding CITES requirements for Hermann’s tortoises in Northern Ireland, with GB rules sometimes being incorrectly presented as though they automatically apply here.

They don’t.

As a professional pet shop, we believe it is the responsibility of anyone importing, advertising or selling protected species to understand the regulations that apply specifically to Northern Ireland and to ensure the correct procedures have been followed.

Before purchasing a Hermann’s tortoise, ask the seller:

✅ Where did the tortoise originate?
✅ Was it legally imported into Northern Ireland?
✅ Does it have the appropriate CITES documentation?
✅ Can the seller demonstrate its legal provenance?

If a seller cannot answer those questions confidently, we would strongly recommend doing your own checks before purchasing.

There is no need for insults, arguments or misinformation — the legislation and paperwork speak for themselves.

🐢 Buy responsibly. Buy legally. Buy from a reputable seller who understands the animals they sell and the legislation surrounding them.

Good morning everyone ❤️

We’re open today 11:00–18:00, but before we get started this morning I wanted to say something after seeing a post yesterday aimed at a young girl who has just taken the massive step of opening her own pet shop.

We all had to start somewhere.

When we started Seth’s Little Zoo, we certainly didn’t have everything we have today. You build bit by bit, you make mistakes, you learn, you reinvest and hopefully you get better every year.

What I really don’t like seeing is another small business being publicly picked apart and ridiculed online.

There’s a massive difference between offering someone genuine advice because you believe something could be improved, and using your business platform to embarrass or belittle them in front of thousands of people.

Online bullying isn’t acceptable — whether it’s aimed at an individual or another business.

Having a bigger shop, spending more money or being in business longer doesn’t give anyone the right to make someone else feel small.

If you have experience that could help a new pet shop owner, pick up the phone. Send them a private message. Offer some advice. Help them improve. Surely that achieves far more for animal welfare than trying to humiliate them publicly.

And when this sort of behaviour becomes a pattern towards other businesses, I think people are entitled to question whether it really is about animal welfare at all.

So rather than adding to the negativity, we want to do the opposite. ❤️

If you know the young lady and her new shop, give her page a follow, call in, buy something if you can and show her that our local pet community can support people who are trying to build something.

Competition is healthy. Constructive criticism is healthy. Online bullying and publicly tearing people down isn’t.

Keep your head up, keep learning and keep building your business. We all started somewhere.
