🦜 Bird Welfare | Choosing the Right Bedding

We have recently noticed h**p bedding being promoted as a suitable option for birds, and we wanted to share our professional advice on the subject.

While h**p bedding is a natural product and may be suitable for certain animals, at Seth’s Little Zoo, we advise against its use for birds.

Our concerns include:

❌ Respiratory Health – Fine dust particles can irritate birds’ sensitive respiratory systems.

❌ Fungal Growth – Damp organic bedding can encourage mould growth, potentially exposing birds to harmful fungal spores.

❌ Accidental Ingestion – Birds may swallow bedding material, creating potential digestive complications.

❌ Health Monitoring – Loose bedding can make it difficult to monitor droppings, an important early indicator of illness.

✅ What Do We Recommend?

For cage bottoms, we favour plain paper liners, changed regularly, allowing owners to monitor their birds’ health.

For Java tree bases and aviary floors, we recommend suitable, untreated, low-dust wood chips, provided they are kept clean, dry and replaced regularly.

We appreciate that different businesses may recommend different products. Our intention is not to criticise anyone, but simply to share our experience and encourage responsible bird keeping.

At Seth’s Little Zoo, the health, safety and long-term welfare of birds will always come before promoting any particular product. ❤️🦜

🦜❤️ THREE EXTRAORDINARY MACAWS, ONE VERY SPECIAL FAMILY! ❤️🦜

At Seth’s Little Zoo, nothing makes us happier than seeing our beautiful birds find exceptional forever homes.

We are absolutely delighted to congratulate Kurtis and his partner Amy on welcoming another two magnificent macaws into their growing private collection!

Having recently purchased one of our exceptionally rare Scarinde Macaws, the couple have now expanded their flock with two more stunning additions:

🦜 Tropicana Macaw – An exceptionally rare hybrid with breathtaking colours.

🦜 Military Macaw – A magnificent species known for its intelligence, personality and striking appearance.

❤️ What makes this story even more special is watching Amy develop such a genuine passion for these incredible birds. She has wholeheartedly embraced her new role as their loving macaw mummy, and it’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm they both share.

Kurtis, a successful local businessman and owner of This Is Arkham gym, has personally created massive, purpose-built enclosures to provide their growing flock with a fantastic environment.

Together, Kurtis and Amy are believed to be the only private owners in Northern Ireland with a young Tropicana and Scarinde Macaw together, making their collection particularly special.

We are incredibly excited to follow their journey on social media and watch these magnificent birds grow, develop and thrive in their new surroundings.

At Seth’s Little Zoo, it’s never just about selling a bird. It’s about finding the right people who will love and care for them for a lifetime.

A huge thank you to Kurtis and Amy for once again placing their trust in us. We wish you both many wonderful years with your beautiful growing flock! ❤️

🦜💙 WELCOME BACK… SOMEONE’S CAUGHT THE PARROT BUG! 💙🦜

There’s something we love seeing at Seth’s Little Zoo — a familiar face walking back through the door… although we’re starting to think parrots might be slightly addictive! 😂

Today we welcomed back one of our returning customers, who came to choose his SECOND parrot from us! 🎉

This time, he fell for an absolutely stunning baby Bolivian Blue-Fronted Amazon. 💚💙

Known for their big personalities, intelligence and fantastic ability to interact with their families, Blue-Fronted Amazons are incredible parrots — and this little one has certainly landed on its feet with a brilliant home.

Thank you once again for coming back to Seth’s Little Zoo and trusting us with another addition to your feathered family. ❤️

We have a feeling parrot number two might not be the last… 👀😂🦜

🦜 JUST ONE REMAINING! 🦜

With this little beauty heading off to its new home, we now have just ONE baby Bolivian Blue-Fronted Amazon remaining and looking for its own five-star forever home! 🏡💚

If you’ve been considering welcoming one of these incredible parrots into your family, now is your chance. Call in and meet our last available baby!

🦜EARLY BIRDS CATCH THE WORM… OR IN THIS CASE, AN AXOLOTL & A BUDGIE! 🩷

What a lovely way to start the morning here at Seth’s Little Zoo! 🥰

A big welcome and thank you to this lovely couple who popped in bright and early this morning to collect not one, but TWO new additions to their family!

❤️ She chose the adorable baby Axolotl.
💙 He chose the beautiful baby Budgie.

Clearly, they couldn’t agree on which pet to get… so they did the sensible thing and got one each! 😂

Both little characters headed off to the same loving home with their very own complete setups, ready to begin their new adventures!

Two very different pets, two happy customers and one very lucky household! 🏡🐾

It’s moments like these that remind us why we love what we do.

Thank you both for choosing Seth’s Little Zoo. We hope your new little family members bring you plenty of happiness, laughter and wonderful memories! ❤️

Looking for a new addition to your family? Call in and see our fantastic selection of animals and complete setups.
