Walk This Way Dogs NI Dog Training and Behaviour
Dog Walking (Group and/or Solo walks) Welcome to Walk This Way Dogs NI! Big dogs, small dogs - everyone is welcome! So what do I offer?

I’m Rachael and I specialise in dogs🧡

Based in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, I am a Trainer and Canine Behaviour Psychologist with an unabashed passion for our hairy friends. Walk This Way Dogs NI is committed to providing effective, enjoyable and convenient solutions to your dog-walking and dog-training/behaviour needs providing peace of mind and a well-behaved, content and happy dog. Walk Th

is Way Dogs NI customises its services to put the needs of you and your dog first. I have over 30 years experience with larger breeds, particularly German Shepherds (my passion), as well as medium and small breeds. No matter what their size, my philosophy is the same

"There is nothing truer in this world than the love of a good dog"

Let me help you strengthen and improve the relationship between you and your dog with kindness and compassion, reward-based, fear-free training and behavioural help. I hold accredited Diplomas in Dog Training, and Canine Behaviour Psychology and I’m currently studying and working towards my certified Behaviourist qualification. I am a member of the Professional Dog Walkers Association (who are advisors to the Canine and Feline Sector Group) and the International Alliance of Holistic Therapists. Police CRB checked, fully insured, canine first aid trained and committed to continuing education and professional development through study, training courses and keeping up-to-date on the latest techniques and scientific findings. I lost my lovely big poster girl, Gypsy in May 2024. She didn’t do too badly at 12 and a half! She was my expert consultant on all things canine and the reason I set up in 2018 so much was my desire to give her a life fulfilled and to know love, right by my side. She was and always will be the Chief Executive Officer! Her last official “job” was to impart her mellow, loving and solid temperament on my 4th German Shepherd rescue, Roxy and the whirlwind that is a highly energetic and intelligent young GSD! She did that alright. It is my privilege to guide Roxy through her life and help her make the right choices. Far from perfect, but we are learning and growing every day! And I think it’s ok to say that I am exceptionally proud of my funny, affectionate little girl and how far she has come so far. First of all, peace of mind. Rest assured that whilst in my care on a structured group walk, your dog will be exceptionally well looked after, receive all the attention and enrichment they need, treated like my own…..and it will be a lot of fun too! But also, the knowledge that you are not on your own. I am here to support you and your dog through the sometimes challenging and frustrating behaviour problems that can crop up, whether that is reactivity or simply good manners and life skills. Walk This Way Dogs NI is here to help. Please get in touch if you need some help or advice! Rachael and Roxy

Dog School🐕 Wee Teddy🤍 is a 7 month old Cavapoochon🥰

Bless his wee heart he's not sure exactly what he's meant to be doing🤷🏼‍♀️ Super on-lead walker, and the apple of his mummy's eye but he's a jumper, and a barker, and when he's overstimulated the biting starts! He's at 'that age', and while it's normal for behaviour to become challenging, it's not great for him or his family😬

Dogs will always do what works for them, and what is reinforced... sometimes unintentionally.  But they are also creatures of habit and routine so we're putting some structure in for this wee guy so that he knows what to expect, as well as some crate training so that he has somewhere safe to be when it all gets too much💯 We've even recruited the help of his older brother, who is doing a sterling job helping him build up some confidence learning new, and definitely more fun alternatives to all that bouncing and biting🎉

Good boy Teddy!🐶

Dog School🐕 This ridiculously handsome young man is Dexter🧡 and he's a 9 month old Goldie🥰 From working stock so he is and it shows. Eager to learn, enthusiastic and Mum is doing such a fantastic job with him🏆

Of course, with all that, his age and his love of other doggos, he gets a bit beside himself when he plays with them. And a wee bit pully on-lead when he sees them🐕‍🦺 So how do you stop them getting too boisterous in play? It's unrealistic to expect them to be able to regulate those emotions in the throes of all that excitement. Letting them 'sort it out themselves' is risky and could very easily spill over into something not so friendly😳 so we have to step in💯 and be the fun police🙄

He can walk like a dream this boy🤩 and he's been practising hard. It's not about ignoring other dogs, but it is about more engagement with Mum and calm observation with more space. Play is so very important for them, but when those emotions start to escalate, that's when we need to call time on it🙌 by using a cue and removing them for a wind-down.

It's something I do almost daily with some of our wrestlers (who shall remain nameless😉). Think I'm going to get 'that's enough' stamped on my forehead🤣 but once learnt, it's incredibly effective.  And our Dexter is a natural born student, soon to become an expert with his doggo interactions🤩 Far too smart this boy!

Good boy Dexter🐶
