Aberteifi Farm Vets are looking for a Farm Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our team!

We’re offering a flexible part-time role (2-4 days per week) working across dairy, beef and sheep, with a share of the on-call rota.

🐑🐄 Vet Tech Data Collection Service - EID tag reader 🐄🐑

Cerys is showing off our electronic tag reader, which is now available to use alongside one of our Vet Techs on farm, who can come out and help with recording your livestock data.

It could be useful for weighing sheep, recording breeding information, collecting EID numbers, or any other jobs where electronic tags can make life a little easier.

The reader is hired as part of the Vet Tech service, so you’ll have someone on hand to help with the data collection too.

This Wednesday, our office will be based at the Nevern Show field as we head out to support another local event and the farming community we work alongside every day.

We loved spending the day catching up with so many of you, and a big thank you to everyone who got involved in our games and activities.

🚜🌭 The BBQ's on – all we need is you! 🌭🚜

We're inviting you, our clients, to come and join the Aberteifi Farm Vets team for a relaxed summer evening with good food, good company, and a chance to catch up with friends from the local farming community.

We know farms don't clock off at 6pm, so don't worry if the cows need milking, the sheep are escaping, or the cattle have other plans—we'll keep the BBQ going for the late arrivals! 🔥

Hay fire warning 🔥

A few days ago we were called out to calves caught in a farm fire, working alongside Ceredigion crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service. It’s been a tough few days for everyone involved, and our thoughts are with the family affected.

We’re sharing this because it’s preventable, not to alarm anyone. Hay heats itself as it dries - no spark needed - and that heat can build for weeks before it turns to fire.
Watch for:
- Steam rising from a stack, morning or evening
- A sweet, sickly smell
- Bales turning brown or tobacco-coloured
- Any bale that feels warm to the touch

If you see any of this: don’t climb or pull the stack apart - it can collapse inward and combust.

Call Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue on 0800 169 1234 for a FREE bale temperature check. If it’s already smoking or smouldering, call 999.

If your livestock are ever exposed to fire or smoke, call your vet promptly - burns and smoke inhalation can worsen for days after the event, and prompt supportive treatment is essential.
