‼️Professional Dog Walkers: Are You Prepared to Handle an Emergency⁉️

‼️ACCREDITED CANINE FIRST AID WORKSHOPS❣️

Dog walking is about far more than exercise and enrichment. Every walk carries responsibility - for safety, wellbeing, and quick decision-making when the unexpected happens.

If a dog chokes, collapses, suffers a cut paw, overheats, has an near drowning experience, encounters an adder bite, or a dog-dog incident occurs, you are the first person that dog depends on.

Would you know exactly what to do?

My practical, hands-on Accredited Canine First Aid Workshops are designed specifically for professional dog walkers who want to feel confident, capable, and fully prepared in real-life situations.

During the workshop, you’ll learn how to:

🐾 Carry out effective pre-walk health checks
🐾 Assess environmental risks including weather, terrain, loose dogs, and triggers
🐾 Respond safely to choking emergencies and CPR
🐾 Manage bleeding, torn nails, cuts, and sudden injuries
🐾 Recognise the signs of shock and stabilise a dog appropriately
🐾 Act quickly and correctly in cases of heatstroke and secondary drowning
🐾 Identify and respond appropriately to adder bites
🐾 Understand the risks and warning signs of Alabama Rot
🐾 Recognise the dangers of blue-green algae exposure
🐾 Handle dog-dog incidents calmly and professionally
🐾 Build and use a practical canine first aid kit for everyday walks

This is real-world training with practical skills you can use immediately helping you protect the dogs in your care while strengthening trust with your clients and enhancing your professional reputation.

Dog guardians place enormous trust in the people who care for their dogs. This training helps ensure you’re ready when it matters most. Guidelines taught are the latest methods.

Just incase you have forgotten the signs..🌡

☀️ HOT WEATHER HAS ARRIVED… AND HEAT STROKE IN DOGS CAN TURN FATAL FAST ☀️

Dogs do not cope with heat the same way humans do. They cannot sweat efficiently and rely mainly on panting to cool themselves down. Once overheating begins, things can escalate rapidly from heat exhaustion to full heat stroke which is a life-threatening emergency.

Heat stroke is not simply “being too hot.” It triggers inflammation throughout the body, damages cells, affects the brain and organs, and can quickly become fatal if body temperature is not reduced fast enough.

🐾 Dogs most at risk:
• Flat-faced breeds
• Senior dogs
• Puppies
• Overweight dogs
• Dogs with heart or respiratory conditions
• Highly driven/excitable dogs

⚠️ EARLY SIGNS OF OVERHEATING:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Bright red gums
• Restlessness
• Slowing down on walks
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Glassy eyes

🚨 SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE:
• Collapse
• Weakness
• Confusion/disorientation
• Thick saliva
• Pale or blue gums
• Seizures
• Loss of consciousness

PREVENTION IS EVERYTHING:

✅ Walk early morning or later evening
✅ Check pavement temperatures carefully
✅ Provide constant access to fresh water
✅ Use shaded routes and allow sniff/rest breaks
✅ Avoid repetitive ball throwing or intense exercise
✅ Use airflow, paddling pools, shade and cooling areas. Be mindful that paddling pools can become warm to hot!
✅ NEVER leave a dog in a parked car
✅ Remember conservatories and enclosed gardens can become dangerously hot as can artificial grass
✅ Allow dogs to self-regulate activity and rest

🐕 Some dogs will continue running, playing or working beyond safe limits because adrenaline overrides their natural stop signals. They rely on us to intervene before they collapse.

❄️ IF YOU SUSPECT HEAT STROKE:
Move the dog somewhere cool immediately and begin RAPID cooling while contacting a vet urgently.

Current evidence supports:
• Pouring cool-to-cold water over the body
• Using fans/airflow alongside water
• Cold wet towels UNDER the dog (not wrapped around them)
• Cold water immersion if tolerated and safe
• Allowing access to cool water if the dog is conscious and able to drink safely

(If using a garden hose to cool your dog - please run the water first - this initial water will be warm to hot).

WHY RAPID COOLING MATTERS:
The longer the body remains dangerously hot, the more damage occurs internally. Rapid cooling improves survival chances significantly and helps reduce organ and neurological damage.

‼️ REMEMBER WET FIRST, VET SECOND ‼️

❄️ CLEARING UP THE ICE & FROZEN TREAT MYTHS:

Older advice warned that ice water, ice cubes or frozen treats could cause “shock” or somehow worsen overheating. Current evidence does not support this in healthy, conscious dogs.

The far greater danger in heat stroke is failing to cool the dog quickly enough.

Frozen enrichment for dogs — such as frozen carrots, lick mats, stuffed Kongs, goat milk cubes or fruit-safe ice treats can be a perfectly appropriate way to provide hydration, enrichment and cooling during hot weather.

Ice cubes themselves are not inherently dangerous for healthy dogs when offered sensibly.

The important distinction is:
🐾 A healthy dog enjoying frozen enrichment is very different from
🚨 A dog already in severe heat stroke who needs urgent medical intervention and careful monitoring.

As always:
• Supervise dogs with frozen items
• Avoid frantic gulping
• Consider tooth health and individual sensitivities
• Never force food or water into a distressed dog

🚫 Avoid wrapping dogs in wet towels as this can trap heat against the body.

💚 It’s always worth being prepared. My Accredited Canine First Aid Workshops cover heat stroke recognition, emergency response and practical canine first aid skills every dog guardian and professional should know.

Trusted Paw has been busy with lots of lovely meet & greets, trial visits and overnight stays recently, getting everyone settled and ready for their holidays over the coming weeks.

Summer availability filled up much quicker than expected (thank you so much for all the support 😊), although I do still have some limited availability in November.

If you already know your 2027 holiday dates, it’s definitely worth getting in touch early as bookings are being taken well in advance now.

🐾 A little update from Trusted Paw 🐾

I honestly didnt expect such an overwhelming response over the past couple of weeks — thank you so much to everyone who has liked, shared and got in touch 😊

It’s been lovely meeting so many gorgeous dogs and their owners, and watching how they all get on with my springer. I’m really looking forward to their stays with me!

I’m now fully booked for boarding up to November.

If you have dates in mind beyond that, or would like to arrange a meet and greet for future stays, please do get in touch.

I'm also keeping a short waiting list in case availablity opens up sooner.

As always, I only take 1 dog at a time or 2 from the same household, so spaces are limited.

Thank you again for all the support - it really does mean a lot 💛

🐾 A little update from Trusted Paw 🐾

I’ve had a really busy week with lots of lovely enquiries and meet & greets, with more booked in for this week — thank you so much for all the support 😊

Availability for the school holidays is already starting to fill up, with several provisional bookings in place.

As I only take one dog at a time (or two from the same household), spaces are limited — so if you’re thinking about booking, it’s worth getting in touch sooner rather than later .

Thanks again — it’s been so lovely meeting so many of you and your dogs already 💛

🐾 Thank you so much for all the support! 🐾

I honestly didn’t expect such a lovely response to my first post — thank you to everyone who has liked, shared, and messaged 😊🐶

I’ve had lots of enquiries over the last couple of days and I’m currently working through messages, with a few meet & greets already booked.

Just to mention, as I offer a home-from-home environment and only take one dog at a time (or two from the same household), availability is limited — especially for peak dates during the school holidays.

If you’re thinking about booking (particularly for summer holidays), it’s definitely worth getting in touch sooner rather than later 🐾

Thank you again for all the support — it really does mean a lot 💛
