Learning day complete! 🤓 🐾

We spent today diving into “Grooming the Compromised Dog” - from post‑op pups to arthritic seniors and dogs with conditions like IVDD.

Massive thanks to for an incredible seminar, and to Pete & Olive for being absolute superstars as our demo dogs!

Would you believe this gorgeous little fluff still battles a case of coat funk - all because he was taken way too short by a previous groomer? When he first arrived, we were genuinely worried about his coat health and even the possibility of alopecia.

Think of a double coat like a garden:
🌱 The undercoat grows like a w**d - fast, pale, and eager to take over.
🌳 The top coat grows like a tree - slow, silky, and absolutely essential.

When the whole thing gets chopped right down, the “w**ds” shoot back first, leaving the coat spongy, dull, and totally confused. It might look cute for a week, but long‑term it can lead to coat funk and, in some cases, trigger alopecia.

He’s been coming to us monthly for over a year now, and while his top coat still refuses to grow the way it used to, we just shape the ends to keep him looking this adorable. It’s a long process, but he’s thriving — and he’s the perfect reminder that double coats really don’t love a close shave.
