You must dust live reptile food with calcium powder because feeder insects completely lack the proper nutrients your reptile needs to survive.

Think of bugs like crickets and mealworms as empty fast-food wrappers. In the wild, reptiles eat a massive variety of insects packed with diverse nutrients. In captivity, their diet is limited, and captive-bred insects are naturally very low in calcium and extremely high in phosphorus. This bad ratio forces you to step in as a chef and supplement their meals.

Here is the breakdown of why this extra step is non-negotiable.

🚫 The Threat of MBD

✨️Without enough calcium, a reptile's body faces a major crisis. To keep its heart beating and muscles moving, the body will literally steal calcium from its own bones. This triggers Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD). MBD causes horrible, permanent issues:

💚 Rubbery, soft jaws that make it impossible to eat
❗️Twisted, deformed spines and legsShattered, fragile bones from minor movement
💚 Severe muscle tremors, seizures, and eventual death

❗️ How to Dust (The Shake-and-Bake Method) Don't just pour powder into the reptile's tank. It makes a mess and doesn't guarantee they actually eat it.

Instead, we highly reccomend purchasing the supplement taker need a tutorital ? Drop a comment below.

☀️ The Vitamin D3 Rule Calcium alone isn't always enough. Reptiles cannot actually absorb calcium without Vitamin D3. If you use high-quality UVB lighting: Buy pure calcium powder without D3. Your reptile naturally makes its own D3 from the light. If you do not use UVB lighting (or have nocturnal species): You must use calcium powder with D3 added to it. To give your pet the ultimate health boost, look into gut-loading. This means feeding highly nutritious vegetables to your insects for 24 hours before you feed those insects to your reptile.

Would you like to know the exact weekly schedule for alternating between calcium, D3, and multivitamins for your specific reptile species?

The Wonder Gecko ✨️

Key Characteristics & Temperament

🤚 Fragile Skin: Their large, plate-like scales shed easily if handled roughly or stressed.
💚 Defense Noise: When threatened, they stand on their tiptoes, arch their backs, and rub their tail scales together to create a distinctive, defensive sizzling or squeaking sound. They can also drop their tails.
🌜 Nocturnal Lifestyle: They are active at night and spend the daytime hidden away in deep burrows.
🏡Enclosure SetupTank Size: Provide a minimum of a 2-3ft wide tank for a single adult. They require floor space rather than height.
🏖 Substrate: Use a 3 to 8-inch deep layer of sand-clay mix. Avoid plain, dry loose sand that collapses; they need a substrate that can hold a structural burrow when slightly damp.
🚇 Burrowing Tunnels: To prevent heavy rocks or hides from collapsing on them, bury PVC pipes at a 45-degree angle beneath the substrate to act as artificial, sturdy cave tunnels.
🌡 Heating, Lighting & Humidity Thermal Gradient: Create a distinct hot side and a cool side so the gecko can regulate its body temperature.
Basking Spot: 35°C to 38°C using an overhead basking bulb or ceramic heat emitter.
Cool End: Around 24°C to 25°C.
Night Drop: Temperatures can safely drop down to 20°C.
⛺️ Burrow Moisture: While the ambient enclosure air should remain dry (30–50% humidity), the bottom layer of the sand/burrow must be kept slightly damp. Mist the inside of their warm hide or the lower substrate layers regularly to assist with shedding.
💡 Lighting: As a nocturnal species, they benefit from a low-strength UVA/UVB light for 10–12 hours a day to mimic a natural desert cycle and support bone health.
🐜 Diet and Nutrition Feeding: They are strict insectivores. Feed them a varied live diet of crickets, locusts, roaches, and mealworms roughly three nights a week.
🤍 Supplementation: Dust their live food with a calcium-rich multivitamin on almost every feed to prevent Metabolic Bone Disease.
