Did you know that 1 in 5 cats over the age of 9 may be affected by high blood pressure? 🐱

Feline hypertension is far more common than many owners realise, and because cats are so good at hiding discomfort, it can go undetected for a long time. Left untreated, high blood pressure can cause serious damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart, and brain.

The good news is that it is easy to check and at Cedar Court Vets, we are now offering free yearly blood pressure clinics with our nurses for our feline patients aged 7 and over.

The International Society of Feline Medicine recommends annual blood pressure checks for healthy cats from the age of 7, and we are proud to make that as accessible as possible for our clients πŸ’š

If your cat is 7 or older, booking their blood pressure check is simple. Call us or book online today:

Halloween can be a fun time of year but for our pets, it can come with a few hidden dangers. Here is what to watch out for πŸŽƒπŸΎ

🍫 Toxic foods
Chocolate is the obvious one, but Halloween brings other dangers too. Sweets containing xylitol, a sweetener found in many sugar-free products, are highly toxic to dogs. Raisins, grapes, and macadamia nuts can also cause serious harm. Keep the trick or treat bowl well out of reach.

πŸŽƒ Decorations
Carved pumpkins with candles are a fire and burn risk for curious pets. Fake cobwebs can be swallowed and cause blockages. Glow sticks and glow jewellery are not highly toxic but can cause excessive drooling and irritation if chewed. Keep decorations at a height your pet cannot reach.

πŸšͺ Open doors
With trick or treaters coming and going, front doors are opened far more than usual. Make sure your pet is calm and safely contained in another room, particularly dogs who may bolt when startled. Check that your pet's microchip details are up to date just in case.

If you think your pet has eaten something they should not have, contact us or your nearest emergency vet straight away 🐾

Autumn is a beautiful time of year for walks with your pet, but the season brings a few hidden hazards worth knowing about. πŸ‚πŸΎ

🌰 Conkers. Horse chestnuts are toxic to dogs and cats. Even small amounts can cause vomiting, drooling, and in serious cases more severe symptoms. Keep an eye out on woodland walks.

🌰 Acorns contain tannins which are toxic to dogs and can cause anything from an upset stomach to kidney damage if eaten in large quantities. Another common Autumn find that is worth watching out for.

πŸ„ Mushrooms. Most wild mushrooms are harmless but some are seriously toxic and very difficult to tell apart. If your dog has eaten a wild mushroom and you are not sure what it was, contact your vet straight away.

πŸ‚ Fallen leaves. Damp, decomposing leaves can harbour mould and bacteria. Dogs that eat or drink from puddles near leaf piles can pick up nasty stomach upsets. Discourage sniffing around large leaf piles on your walks.

If you think your pet has eaten something they should not have, please contact us or your nearest emergency vet as soon as possible.

Meet Nugget 🐢

This adorable chunky Golden Retriever puppy came in for his first health check and vaccinations, and we think it is safe to say he made quite the impression on the team. Just look at that face! 😍

Puppies come in all shapes and sizes at Cedar Court Vets and every single one gets the same level of care, attention, and cuddles πŸ’š

Welcome to the family, Nugget. We have a feeling you are going to be a happy regular.

Last Friday our team took part in an animal CPR training session led by our very own Veterinary Nurse Jenny P., a Certified Recover Rescuer 🐾

Knowing how to respond quickly and confidently in an emergency can make all the difference for an animal in crisis. It was a valuable and eye-opening session for everyone involved, and we are so proud to have someone with Jenny's expertise and dedication as part of our team.

A huge thank you to Jenny (PulseCheck Veterinary CPR Training) for giving up her time to train us all. We hope we never need to use it… but we are ready if we do πŸ’š

It was a privilege to be part of such a warm and joyful community event. Dr. InΓͺs and Dr. Adrian had a brilliant time meeting residents, families, and some very handsome four-legged competitors. Congratulations to Max, Sadie and Louie on their well-deserved rosettes!
