Holistic = Treating the body as a whole.

30th August - Today is "National Holistic Pet Day" - a day we celebrate our pets and help them have more fulfilling lives.

Taking a holistic approach...
Meaning to treat as a "whole", encouraging pet owners and Veterinary professionals to look into an integrated wellness approach alongside conventional veterinary medicine.

Evaluating their diet, home environment and lifestyle and offer advice, starting with the basics of good nutrition, physical exercise, and mental stimulation, that could be effecting their long-term health, rather than just the symptoms of the illness or disease.

A holistic approach to well-being is nothing new for humans, but applying this to the lifestyle of our household pets is still a growing trend.

Joint conditions for example: surgery and/or pain management is often required BUT ensuring their nutrition covers everything they need, weight management, reducing compensatory issues with complementary therapies such as laser, massage, physio, acupuncture and Hydrotherapy.

Our August "Star ⭐ Patient of the Month" goes to Shadow.

A gentle giant who is an absolute sweetheart 🥰
He comes in, leans in for a cuddle and then turns round and lays down ready, "asking" for his K-Laser therapy prior to his Hydrotherapy session.

Cathy Peak District Canine Massage and Hydrotherapy recommended our services, to help compliment his pain management plan for his arthritis and hindlimb weakness. During our assessment we found he had discomfort in his hips, along his back muscles and shoulders from compensating.

He is on antiinflammatories and has been having Hydrotherapy to improve and maintain his gait. We added in KLaser and his weight distribution has improved to now within normal limits.

Although Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition...getting the diagnosis doesn't mean it's the end of the road...it purely means "there needs to be a change in direction"

We work closely with Cathy District Therapies, his vets and his fabulous owners, to help give Shadow the best life.
Pain control must always be centre focus and making modifications to his exercise regime, home & lifestyle adaptations and the introduction of a multi-modal management plan, gives him that zest for life.

We think he looks incredible for 13 years of age. 🤗 How many ❤️ can we get for this very handsome big black teddy bear?

Animal supplements (often called nutraceuticals) lack the strict pre-market approval required for pharmaceutical drugs.
Regulators like the FDA or the UK’s Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) do not routinely test them for safety or effectiveness before sale, meaning quality control and label accuracy depend heavily on the manufacturer.

Risks of Unregulated Supplements:
⏩Inaccurate Contents: Products may contain significantly more or less of the active ingredient than listed, or none at all.
⏩Contamination: Lack of strict oversight can lead to heavy metals, pesticides, or biological impurities in the final product.
⏩False Claims: Unregulated brands often market unproven remedies to cure, treat, or prevent severe diseases like arthritis or organ failure illegally.
⏩Adverse Reactions: Overdosing on certain active ingredients (like amino acids or herbal extracts) can cause toxicity or conflict with prescribed medications.

How to Find Safe Products:
✅First instance; ask a veterinary professional (Vet or Nurse) to recommend clinically backed brands with proven safety records and clinical studies.

✅Look for Third-Party Testing: Choose brands that use independent quality seals (such as certified feed/supplement assurance schemes in the UK)

✅Avoid Miraculous Claims: Steer clear of products claiming to treat / cure major medical conditions without scientific proof.
